Mixed Wines at the Wedge and Wheel

Introduction

This tasting was a bring a bottle event with cheese and salumi pairings from the Wedge & Wheel, a newer cheese shop in Stillwater. The cheeses and salumi were all excellent and the wines did their part as well.

  • NV Franck Bonville Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Prestige 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    Pale gold color. Nose shows mineral and green apple. The palate has creamy mousse, apple, some pear, mineral, tart, fresh, chalky mineral on the finish.

  • 2008 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    Pale green-gold color. Nose has an abundance of shell minerality, lemon, se air, bright, floral. The palate is energetic, bright, good acid, mineral driven, lemon, citrus, lovely finish. Really good stuff. My WOTN.

  • 2005 Mestre-Michelot Meursault Sous La Velle 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

    Medium gold color. PNP, this had a lot of oak and toast with a burnt oak character on the nose and the palate. Not as good as previous bottles. Has decant mineral, citrus, but too much of that sharp burnt character on the mid and finish. 88(?)pts.

  • 2011 Talley Vineyards Chardonnay Rosemary's Vineyard 91 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Arroyo Grande Valley

    Light gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. This showed oak, citrus,some mineral; the palate is full bodied, nice, palate has citrus, melon, becomes somewhat tropical over time and as warms. Looks to be very solid. A little young and may improve with a year or two of cellar time. 91(+?)pts.

  • 2009 Patricia Green Cellars Pinot Noir Old Vine Estate Vineyard 91 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge

    Medium red color. Slow-O for 80 minutes. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. Great nose; full of wonderful earthiness, floral, strawberry, cherry, and spice. The palate is medium bodied, lively acid, strawberry, some cherry, very spicy/peppery on the finish. The spic on the finish detracted a bit from an overall excellent wine with a stellar nose. I would lean towards drinking these up myself.

  • 2010 Trinchero Meritage 89 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Very dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass blind over 30 minutes. 80%CS, 9%PV, 8%M, 3%CF. Ripe nose with good fruit character, mineral, black cherry liqueur, cassis, blackberry, oak. The palate is pretty dense, nice ripe fruit emerges over 20 minutes, cassis, blackberry, huckleberry, still green, herbal, hot, pepper, oak. This comes off young and hopefully this will integrate out better with another 18-24 months. 89-91pts.

  • 2003 Château Bourgneuf 92 Points

    Very dark red color. Slow-O for 2 hours, drank 1 glass over an hour. OOh, love that nose, damp earth, a bit of funk, saddle leather, black fruit, perfumed. The palate is medium full to full bodied, earthy, minerals, perfume, funk, earthy, black fruits, layered, leather, a touch of barnyard, long finish.

  • 2001 Château Nairac 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac

    Dark gold color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. The nose is spicy, apricot, orange zest, mild honey. The palate has good body, creamy, good acid, mild hioney, apricot, orange, citrus zest, very spicy and sharper on the finish. This evens out with 20-30 minutes and may need some more time to show best. Seemed to be improving. 90-91(+?)pts.

  • 2007 Louis Latour Corton Domaine Latour 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Light -medium red color. PNP, drank 1+ glass over an hour. This had a nice nose with dry forest floor, spices, strawberry, floral. The palate is light and elegant, strawberry, light raspberry, spiced, mineral, medium finish. 90-91pts.
