Introduction

I brought the wines, everybody else tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2010 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois-La Livinière La Féline 88 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois-La Livinière

    Decanted. This was a very dark purple wine. The nose was very powerful, lots of dark berries, a bit peppery, with a slight hint of citrusy oak. The palate was also powerful, with dark fruit, some tannins, a bit of smoke and garrigue. This feels quite young at the moment, will go on for another 5 years or so.

  • 2008 Domaine Borie de Maurel Minervois Belle de Nuit 86 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois

    Decanted. My last bottle. The colour was surprisingly light, a bright red. The nose was also surprising, light strawberry and cherry, quite sweet. The palate follows with light strawberry tastes and a bitter rowanberry finish. A very surprising wine, it seems to have gone a bit over the hill. Actually I'm happy this was my last bottle!

Closing

Two wines that I bought from the same producer. They were very different from each other, one heavy and the other light, quite an entertaining pair! For the Belle de Nuit, people were even guessing home made fruit wine...
