This was served double blind alongside Pierre Morey 2007 Meursault Perrieres. While we were not 100% certain which was which, I think I am 95% confident this was the Batard. Lots of power throughout with an impressive cross-section of orchard fruit. Very good density and freshness.

Served double blind alongside Ramonet 2007 Batard-Montrachet, I am 95% certain we correctly identified which bottle was which. This showed lots of delish fruit everywhere but also a bit of protruding new oak, plus perhaps ever-so-slightly too tropical. Not perfectly balanced right now.

Open 30 minutes before serving. While I'm often a fan of Leroy wine, this wine was really shining in some unusual ways. This started like all the finest Leroy wines with intense spice and floral character, but perhaps more black fruit vs red. Flavors were intensely black cherry and berry with very clear Gevrey-Chambertin meatiness. also showing lots of 1995 structure throughout, but without the coarse elements too prevalent from the all-too-common mediocre wines from the vintage. So my favorite aspect of this wine was its showcasing the best of its terroir and vintage while still in the Leroy style. This remained quite consistent through the 2+ hours in glass.

Open an hour+ before served. Perhaps this was just lost alongside the other, better bottles of Gevrey-Chambertin 1988 Combottes from other producers, but this came across as quite mature, slightly thin while also still firmly structured, which is the challenge of the 1988 vintage. Better when first poured vs an hour later.

Open an hour+ before serving, this still started slightly reserved and reductive. Really opened up within 15 minutes in glass, this wine was a real superstar tonight and kept changing, improving and unfolding over the course of the 2+ hours in glass. intensely floral through the night, this kept showing different aspects of both Morey and Gevrey character with meatiness, mature black fruit, sauvage, and sauteed mushroom coming and going through the evening. This was a wine the deserved the attention we were able to give it with a smaller group and fewer wines we could taste and retaste all night. This was the oldest Truchot I can ever recall tasting, and makes me understand the passion others have for this producer.

Perhaps not quite as robust and intense as prior bottles, or perhaps slightly lost as the last bottle of the evening, served tonight with our steak. Still very dense, long and meaty with power that was really unmistakably Gevrey Grand Cru. This will last a long time.
