Very expressive nose of cedar, herbs, dark fruit and loads of spice. This carried through to the palate with added notes of black olive and more spice. The tannins seemed mostly resolved, but this still had plenty of backbone to last a long time. The spice and olive notes reminded me of the 1961. This kept evolving over the 3 hours. Long finish with outstanding grip.
Decanted and drank over two hours. This really took some time to come around and only really did once we dug into our Wagyu cheeseburgers…as you do. Once the nose came around there was more spice, cinnamon and spearmint along with coffee and chocolate on the nose and palate. Rich dark fruit with serious, but obtrusive tannin. Very long finish.
This was my surprise of the night. Immediately open with red and black fruit on the nose, very floral. More dark fruit on palate. Much lighter in body than the 82 or the 86, but very pretty, forward and fresh. Medium+ finish. At times this reminded me more of a right bank than a left bank with the serious floral notes.
Very forward, sweet ripe nose of sweet red and black fruit, caramel and oak. A serious mocha note emerged with more time in the glass. More floral as well. Layered on the palate a sleek, glossy and silky texture. This is like candy today and while it is very approachable, the deep rich ripe fruit will last a long time. Long, smooth finish.
