Introduction

Rovero Winery is run by the same family that owns the Agriturismo Il Milin that we stayed at. Organic farming methods.

  • 2011 Rovero Sauvignon Blanc Villa Guani

    Italy, Piedmont, Piemonte DOC

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon-yellow colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, light intensity, with aromas of vanilla oak and citrus fruit. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, medium acidity only, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of slightly creamy vanilla oak, citrus lemon-lime, and honeydew. Medium- finish.
    Acceptable quality. Interesting oaked Sauvignon Blanc from Piemonte. 90% of the juice is fermented in European oak barriques. Drink now, will probably not improve with further ageing.

  • 2011 Rovero Nebbiaia

    Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of sweet red cherry and slight oak. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherry fruit. Medium+ finish.
    Acceptable quality. For drinking young to medium age. Not for extended ageing.

  • 2012 Rovero Barbera d'Asti Superiore Gustin

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti Superiore

    Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toasted vanilla oak and black cherries. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of vanilla oak and black cherries. Medium+ finish.
    Good quality Barbera. May integrate nicely over the next 1-2 years.
    Aged 30% in small barriques, 70% in large barrels.

  • 2010 Rovero Lajetto

    Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of red cherries and ripe strawberries. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol, low tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries and ripe strawberries. Short finish.
    Acceptable quality. Aged in oak barriques for 12months. But I don't really get the complexity or structure here that would make me think this could improve with further bottle age.

  • 2009 Rovero Rocca Schiavino

    Italy, Piedmont, Monferrato

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits, slight cassis, tobacco, and hints of herbs. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red cherries, blackberries, blackcurrant, cassis, tobacco. Long finish.
    Good quality. Will improve with further ageing over the next 4-5 years.
    40% Cabernet, 20% Merlot, 20% Barbera, 20% Nebbiolo.
    Aged 12months in oak barriques.

  • 2010 Rovero Rouvè

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Barbera d'Asti Superiore

    Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purple colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toasted vanilla oak, black cherries, strawberries. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol, smooth medium+ tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of vanilla, black cherries, and strawberries. Long finish.
    Very good quality Barbera. Only thing is I felt that the acidity could be better. Nonetheless, this is nice to drink now and has good potential to improve over the next 4-5 years.
    Hand harvested grapes, from a small, single vineyard of Barbera, known as "Vigneto Serra", which dates back to 1967.

  • 2013 Rovero Brachetto

    Italy, Piedmont, Piemonte DOC

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, pinkish ruby colour. Thin legs. Fizzy.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of strawberries. Youthful.
    On the palate, sweet, high acidity,low alcohol, low hardly noticeable tannins, medium- body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of fresh strawberries. Medium finish.
    Good quality. Drink fresh.
