Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2005 Dauvissat-Camus Chablis 1er Cru La Forest

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Medium yellow with glint of green. Forthcoming aromas of flowers and seashell. Medium weight, some perceptible oak, beautifully layered feel. Superb citrus/acid balance with background brine and iodine. At a great stage now and one of the best bottles of '05 La Forest I've had.

  • 2001 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

From the American importer. Dull red color with maturing rim. Gorgeous multidimensional nose of mulled red fruit, toffee, and herbs. Lovely medium weight. Supple, long, natural sweetness of fruit and superb balance-very vinous. Mature and complex, just a great bottle of Chateauneuf which I preferred to the 2000 tonight; the older wine seemed sterner and less fully developed.

  • 2000 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

From the American importer. Medium ruby (slightly deeper than the 2001). Very different nose than that wine-more black fruited and tobacco. Medium weight but not as textural as the younger wine. More grip and tannin, shorter finish. This is clearly not yet at its peak, but it is difficult to see it eclipsing its younger stablemate based upon tonight's showing. It is just more rugged and less harmonious.
