Massive tasting of Baroli across the various communes and crus.

  • 2010 Gianni Gagliardo Barolo

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of forest floor, earth, leather, beef stew, and chalky minerality. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, dry high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of leather, chalk, earth, sour red cherries. Long finish.
    Very good quality. Lovely nose. Will improve over the next 10 years.

  • 2010 Cascina Ballarin Barolo Tre Ciabot

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of barley, earth, red fruit. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, puckering high tannins, full body. Medium flavor intensity, with flavours of juicy red apples, red cherries, barley, and a bit of earth. Long finish.
    Good quality. Will improve over the next 10 years.
    Blend of vineyards from La Morra, Monforte d’Alba, Novello.

    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of rose bush, strawberry, and redcurrant. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of strawberry and redcurrant. Long finish.
    Good quality Barolo. Young now. This will develop over the next 10 years.

    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of rose bush, raspberry, and strawberry. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ acidity, drying high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of raspberry, strawberry, sweet licorice. Long finish.
    Good quality Barolo. Very young at this point. Needs 5+ years to develop more complexity.

    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, smooth medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of earth, soy sauce, leather, and sour red cherries. Long finish.
    Very good quality Barolo. Can drink now, and will continue to improve over the next 3-4 years.

  • 2008 Claudio Alario Barolo Sorano

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of vanilla oak, and dried red fruits. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium+ alcohol, dry high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of vanilla oak, raisins, dried plums. Long finish.
    Acceptable quality Barolo. Fruit seems to be withering out pretty early and yielding to the oak. I think drink up within 3 years.
    Sorano is a small vineyard on the way up to the town of Serralunga.
