A nice selection of the region's finest red wines.

  • 2010 Gaja Barbaresco

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of sweet red cherries and raspberries, mild floral. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, cassis. Long finish.
    Very good quality. Great structure and purity of red fruit. Very young now. This will need to stay in the cellar for another 10 years to develop more complexity.

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of sweet red cherries, and strawberries. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, fine high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of red cherry, strawberry, and spice. Long finish.
    Very good quality. Very young now. Will need another 10 years to develop.
    Mix of vineyards from La Morra and Serralunga.

  • 2003 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba 97 Points

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with a lovely bouquet of truffles, mushrooms, earth, and red fruit. Developed.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, fine high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with savoury truffles, mushrooms, earth, red cherries, and strawberries. Long finish.
    Outstanding quality. Could still go on well for another 5 years at least. The standout wine of my Piedmont trip.

  • 2003 Domenico Clerico Barolo Pajana

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of soy sauce, leather, mushrooms, almonds, earth. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavor intensity, with flavours of red and dark cherries, soy sauce, leather, mushrooms, earth, and a slight bitter almond. Long finish.
    Outstanding quality. Very nice already in terms of nose and flavours. But tannins still very big. Maybe a few more years will smoothen them out.
    From the Pajana cru in the commune of Monforte d'Alba.
