I have to admit I really get the allure of most sparkling wines. This was quite pleasant, but I fail to see what made it special, other than the fact that it came from Champagne. I think I'd rather get a couple bottles of the Anderson Valley, or better yet, a couple bottles from the Loire or somewhere.

Such a crazy wine. Wild aromatics with herbs and wax and all this stuff that I don't normally think of with wine so don't know how to describe. The palate is round and also wild. Really cool wine that is a delight to try. Whether you think it's worth $40+ is another thing, but definitely worth trying just for the uniqueness.

1972 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant 91 Points

We had this after a Jaboulet-Versage Le Corton '71 which I can't figure out how to input. The ullage was pretty low, down to the lower neck. However the wine was still quite alive, and much better, as expected, from the Le Corton. However, this was not a definitive experience of DRC. It did get more interesting over about ten minutes, but never beyond the realm of really nice Burgundy. There was forest floor, earth, some light red fruits, but not the complexity, elegance, or intensity that I've found with the other rare occasions I've tried DRC. Really cool though.

Despite being in the best shape of the bottles we tried, I had very low expectations of this wine. What a shock then when this bottle was not only still alive, but an absolutely glorious expression of Rioja. This was just stunning stuff, one of those haunting experiences that is even more special because of the rarity of it happening. This 60+ year old Rioja not only still had fruit, there was still a sweetness to it as well. Perfectly integrated, seamless really, and screaming of Rioja! This is the most amazing expression of Spanish wine I've had. I'm not sure how lucky we were in having a bottle this amazing, or how this was younger, but this was a truly great wine. One of the more special bottles I've ever had.

1973 Château Mouton Rothschild 90 Points

This wine also had a pretty low ullage. I might have been a little bit more impressed if this had not followed the stunning Rioja, but it did. Tasted like Bordeaux, showed some elegance, and was quite pleasant. However, it did not make my think of 1st growth especially. The fruit was still there, it was well balanced, and enjoyable. There just wasn't any extra oomph. Not sure if there ever was, but with a low fill bottle I will not pass judgement on '73 Mouton.

750 Bottle. This was pretty cool. It went extremely well with my dessert. Still quite fresh and vibrant, with wonderful aromatics. In fact, the highlight was all of the aromas wafting from the glass, with the palate being a slight disappointment from that. Not really a ton going on, but fun.
