Good food and wines with close friends. Interesting mix of wines again.

  • 2008 Domaine Alain Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes 88 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

    Tasted blind.
    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with a purplish tinge. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of licorice, redcurrant, red cherry, mild toasted oak and earthy floral scent. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, low tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of redcurrant, strawberry, red cherry, licorice, earth. Medium finish.
    Good quality village level Burgundy. Feminine and slightly floral that had us guessing a Chambolle-Musigny. Lacks intensity and concentration for a Vieilles Vignes, but this could be a symptom of the 2008 vintage.
    Can drink now, and could improve slightly over the next 5 years.

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of blackberry jam and blackcurrant. Developed.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of blackberry jam, blackcurrant, sour plum, sour cherry. Long finish.
    Good quality. Nice jammy fruitiness and approachable, but lacking complexity and depth. Drink up now, doesn't give me the impression that it's going to evolve any further with age.

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of blackcurrant, dark plums, mint. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of blackcurrant, dark plums, menthol, minty herbs, graphite. Long finish.
    Good quality. Can drink now, and will develop a bit more complexity over the next 5 years.

    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sweet earth, baking spice, tea leaves, and dark fruit. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of licorice, black cherries, blackberries, dark plums, tea leaves, earth, bit of soy sauce. Long finish.
    Very good quality. Approachable and can drink now, and will continue to evolve and improve over the next 5+ years.

  • 2008 Lou Miranda Estate Sémillon Leone Botrytis 90 Points

    Appearance is clear, deep intensity, golden amber colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of marmalade, dried apricots, honey. Developing.
    On the palate, luscious sweetness, high acidity, medium alcohol, full body. Pronoucned flavour intensity, with flavours of marmalade, dried apricots, honey. Long finish.
    Good quality. Luscious sweetness and pronounced intensity reminded me of the De Bortoli Noble One. However, this has a bit less acidity than that, so almost slightly cloying, and has less complexity of flavour.
    Can drink now, and will continue to evolve over the next 10 years.
