Introduction

Last night might have been one of the last warm evenings of the year. Couple that with our friend Dave N. in town visiting and my wife and I and Dave sat out by the fire having some wine.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2007 Hyde De Villaine Syrah Californio Hyde Vineyard 91 Points

    USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros

    Purple/ruby in color. The nose is very nice with boysenberries, a hint of rosemary and just the slightest bit of raisins. This drinks like a combination of warm and cool vineyards although I am pretty sure it is all from Hyde Vineyard which I thought was in Carneros. On the palate, this back off from the ripeness on the nose. There is great acidity. Lots of red fruit. Still young but starting to show a maturity. Nice finish. Good with or without food.

  • 2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Old Vine Zinfandel 92 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

    Easily the best showing for this wine yet. I have opened a bunch of these this summer and for some reason, this was a bit better. Everyone thought so. The nose is deep with bramble, coffee, black raspberries and roasted meats. Great lush but slick texture. young, of course but lots of fruit. Just a bit of ripeness/sweetness. We drank this by the fire without food and it went down very easily.
