Good floral start with lots of Pinot character and some citrus streaks throughout. Fresh and very powerful fruit. Very enjoyable, just not the most subtle of bubbles.
My first P2, I found this a real step up from the "regular" 1998 DP. Apple and pear with lemon background notes, this is very concentrated and powerful, with impressive length, while still fresh and vibrant.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Popped and poured. At first this was somewhat reserved with ripe orchard fruit, perhaps slightly reductive. This opened up considerably with 30+ minutes of air, picking up weight and intensity while also coming across as more ripe and spice-driven. At the same time this clearly had the acidity to remain in good balance. With that 30-45 minutes of air, this was very alluring.
Mature red fruit with some tapenade and roast meat aromas. Same red berry flavors with black berry hints, very good balance and elegantly textured. Drinking very well now.
Very gamy aromas wit lots of black berries and currant and olive tapenade aromas and flavors. Very meaty character that I found slightly rustic and rugged. I think this really needs plenty more cellar time for me to enjoy, while others enjoyed this far more tonight.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
Decanted an hour+ before I tasted. Mostly red berry aromas with assertive roast meat and sauvage. Starts with the same red fruit flavors, with faint black berries and better spice. Very firm tannins started taking center stage from middle to finish. 91 points for its pleasure tonight, but I think this has 93+ point potential from 2020 forward.
Open many hours before serving, which I think really helped. Sweetly floral with crushed black berries throughout, nicely spice with anise and allspice along with vanilla and cedar. Very fine and elegant tannins.
Open an hour+ before serving. Unmistakably Bordeaux aromas of mature black currant with some cassis, tobacco hints and well softened tannins. At a very good place now.
A very good 1997, remaining more fresh and lively than others I have tried this year. Lots of black currant and plum starting to mature gracefully with darkly roasted coffee, dark chocolate and some clove. well balanced, good length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Popped and poured. Ripe red fruit with sweet baking spice. Ripe fruit on both nose and palate. A bit compact right now, but i don't think this will ever be very nuanced. This would have benefited from several hours of air and/or a few more years in the cellar.
Popped and poured, I was amazed at how open and accessible this wine was tonight. Cross-section or ripe red cherry aromas with good floral support. Ripe red berry and cherry flavors with subtle spice and good earthy elements. Comes across as ripe and forward, but plenty of structure comes through in the middle, providing a real elegance.

Very rich and tropical but without the structural support to provide good balance, then a bit of heat on finish. Very modern styled.
