Introduction

Enrico Fossi is a self-made wine maker and still likes to produce wines following his own taste. As a result, his wines definetely reflct his character and philosopy.
Starting from the choice of the variety: an enclave of France just outside Florence: Malbec, Cabernet, Shyrah, Gamay..Pinot noir and so on...

  • 2008 Enrico Fossi Terrantica Toscana IGT 88 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Brilliant full golden yellow.
    Intense, complex and very fine at nose: mineral and toasted notes more evident, then fruit: gold plum.
    Intense, persistent and fine at taste: alcoholic entry, then minerality and fruit: opulent and rich, gliceric, rounded. Some wooden notes, not disturbing (using II and III hand barriques). Mineral finish, good acidity.

  • 2005 Enrico Fossi Malbec 89 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Vino da Tavola

    Thick, impenetrable garnet red, but with a young violet rim. Fine and intense hints of alcohol and tamarind at nose, coffee, but also humus and wet soil. Some enamel notes.
    Full pulp, fruity mouth, supported by a nice acidity and a vivid minerality. Tannins integrated, but still alive.

  • 2005 Enrico Fossi Vignavento Toscana IGT 92 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Ruby red, with purple rim.
    Intense, complex and fine nose, with fruits and spices, nice balsamic notes (eucalyptus).
    Rich chewy fruit, with a good acidity and tannin still a bit young. Rounded and elegant. Very good balance.

  • 2005 Enrico Fossi Sassoforte Toscana IGT 89 Points

    Same impenetrable garnet red. Gliceric.
    Did not find the usual herbaceous notes, but a world of fruit and spices (coffee above all).
    Dense and thick at taste, well balanced, also if still young. More fruit than herbs, but this is the Fossi's style.

  • 2005 Enrico Fossi Syrah Toscana IGT 93 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

    Intense, gliceric garnet red, with purple rim.
    Mainly balsamic notes at first nose, then a lot of red ripe fruit. Some herbaceous hints.
    Incredibly rich, thick substance at taste. Fruit, minerality, acidity. Some liquorice notes. Very well balanced. And still a lot of time to go.

    Same intense colour.
    At nose: spices: cocoa powder, pepper, leather and red fruits.
    Coherent fruit at taste. well balanced, maybe a bit weak in structure, but only when compared to the others.

Closing

All the wines show some common characters: Elegance, a rich, opulent fruit and silky mouth. The other side of the medal is that this "magnificence" is obtained covering the varieties' features and properties. The result are incredible, NOT typical, wines around 90/100, destined to live for another decade.
