Domaines Guyon & Bertagna - Portfolio Tasting

Gordons arranged this generous tasting for their burgundy customers, and like other events hosted at the store the wines were quite impressive. Generously, they opened 5 grand crus and 7 1er crus. The styles were displayed nicely and a few of the wines delivered big. Great way to get a sense for a producer.

• 2011 Antonin Guyon Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille Blanc

  Nose: Slight creamy note, apples, lemon/lime notes. Palate: Very broad and crisp with nice fruit and mineral. Finish: Moderate.

• 2011 Domaine Bertagna Vougeot Le Village Blanc

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot

  Nose: Lemon oil, Banana, Brioche. Very tropical nose. Palate: very round and creamy. Fresh pineapple, banana and spice notes. Finish: pear, lychee and great acid.

• 2010 Antonin Guyon Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus 91 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

  Nose: Slate, mineral, steely acid and white floral notes. Palate: Peach, Pear, Seashell and slight white mushroom note. Finish: Chalk, apple and acid.

• 2011 Antonin Guyon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

  Nose: Reticent nose, but crystaline lemon/citrus and floral notes come through. Palate: Apple sauce, pear, earth, saline and wet rock. Finish: Good acid and closed fruit.
  
  Lot of promise, but very pricey at $160 release.

• 2011 Antonin Guyon Corton-Charlemagne 92 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

  Nose: Perfumed apple, pear and brioche with a slight caramelized edge to it. Palate: Sliky with powdery chalky texture and tropical fruit and creamy richness. Finish: Steely and full of mineral. Long with nice acid. Needs some time to come around.

• 2011 Domaine Bertagna Corton-Charlemagne 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

  Nose: Full of roasted pineapple, tropical fruits, apple sauce, vanilla and spice. Palate: Very large scaled and creamy. There is a nice pineapple and bosc pear note on the palate. Finish: long silky and suave.

• 2010 Antonin Guyon Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice

  Nose: Spice, Sandalwood, Cranberries and sour cherry. Palate: Cherry & wood dominated palate. Somewhat dry. Strong clove note. Finish: drying and full of spice with tart cherry.

• 2011 Domaine Bertagna Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Murgers

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru

  Nose: Salami, pepper, Cherry, Strawberry and earth. Palate: Cherry, black pepper, strawberry and rhubarb notes. Soft, but has a wild brambly character. Finish: Slightly chalky and full of red fruit and cured meat notes.

• 2010 Domaine Bertagna Vougeot 1er Cru Clos de la Perrière

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vougeot 1er Cru

  Nose: Sauteed beef (seriously), Game, Strawberry and burnt matches. Palate: Cherry, Raspberry, Rhubarb and cherry stems.
  
  Also hard to asses, but the cherry/game notes are appealing.

• 2010 Domaine Bertagna Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

  Nose: Cherry/Raspberry nose with a nice perfume. Wood notes. Palate: Silky and gorgeous mouthfeel with Red Cherry, Raspberry, florals and some red currant.

• 2009 Domaine Bertagna Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

  Nose: Ripe Strawberry, Black Cherry, Shaved Chocolate and nice perfume. Palate: Earthy, tart berries, florals and silky feel.
  
  This was excellent right now, and will definitely will improve over the mid-term.

• 2011 Domaine Bertagna Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

  Nose: Slightly soapy, perfumed, spices, florals and strawberry. Palate: Full and silky, but more of the violet/soap character. Finish: Sour Cherry, Spice and Oak.
  
  May need some time to come together, but this seemed a bit disjointed tonight.

• 2010 Antonin Guyon Corton-Clos du Roy 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Nose: Raw Duck, Blackberry, Game, Earth and Juniper. Palate: Full, round and silky with loads of blackberries, blue fruit and spice. Oak is well integrated, but tannic wine. Finish: Long and gaining complexity.
  
  I agree with Gilman on this one. A pleasant surprise in this lineup.

• 2010 Domaine Bertagna Clos Vougeot

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

  Nose: Burnt wood, Indian spices, Cherry and Blueberry. Palate: Very difficult to assess, tight, woody and hard.
  
  Supposedly the vines are way up at the top of the clos near the chateau, so maybe this will be great when it comes together.

• 2010 Domaine Bertagna Clos Saint-Denis 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru

  Nose: Insane perfume on the nose of wood smoke, black cherry, framboise and bramble. Lots of oak to integrate. Palate: Strong tannins that attack your gums. This is huge and yet has a silky palate feel and slate, cherry, earth and game.
  
  Great materials here.
