    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Tasted as part of a 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 Dauzac vertical; decanted for 5+ hours. The 06 showed the best of the 4, though the 08 and 10 were still plenty youthful and ultimately have a higher ceiling. The 07 was right out! The 06 is not as bad a vintage as the earlier ratings suggest and coming into its own as a good but not great Margaux. For me it's definitely a drink sooner than later vintage but I am not big on buying more at the $45 price tag when the 2008 is going for $50 and the 2010 for $55. Overall: B+.

    Tasted as part of a 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 Dauzac vertical; decanted for 5+ hours. The 07 was just as poor as my previous notes. the funk was still there along with the strong oak tannin, pyrazines, and corresponding burnt coffee grounds that dominate the palate. It was so bad I opened my last bottle in order to dump the whole thing through a vinturi, which seemed to only bring out more funk and barnyard. The $24 price tag I paid isn't awful, but considering I paid $25 for the 2006 its not really what I call "value". Overall B-.

    Tasted as part of a 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 Dauzac vertical; decanted for 5+ hours. Nice red and black fruit starting to peek through the spicy, chewy tannins. Simple, but still youthful and starting to show it's promise. Right now the 06 is drinking better but in time I am thinking the 08 will be better. All depends on how much complexity develops. Going for $50 a bottle now so if you got it for less definitely let it sit a while longer. I would rather spend that $50 on 09's and 10's right now. Overall: B for now, but definitely a higher ceiling than the 2006; I could see an A- if it all comes together.

  • 2010 Château Dauzac

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

    Tasted as part of a 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2010 Dauzac vertical; decanted for 5+ hours. Inky purple and much darker as compared with the older vintages. Bold fruit and oak on the nose, classic young Bordeaux aromas. Even after the extended decant the tannins still dominate the palate- this was opened waaaay to early and in this vintage it will need some time. The nose suggests that there will be plenty of fruit throughout the aging but only time will tell if it will develop any complexity and depth. At $55 its not a bad play considering most of the 2010 Bordeaux value Chateaux are starting around $50. No rating at this time, probably best to check back no sooner than 2016.
