  • 2009 Fontanafredda Barolo Serralunga d'Alba 90 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Fairly big nose. Young and spicy. Plums, cinnamon laced cherries, a touch of red vegetables and herbs.
    Palate is moderate light bodied, baking spice driven. Great minerality. Great textbook Barolo styling. Moderate complex finish. Good acid. Young.

  • 2001 Fontanafredda Barolo Vigna La Rosa 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Favorite Barolo of the evening. Only made in exceptional vintages. Aromatic, herbs, spicy raspberries, road tar, rust, lots of minerals. Burnt rubber - very complex.
    Moderate body. Feminine styling on the plate. Soft elements and very spicy finish. Drinking well now.

  • 2001 Fontanafredda Barolo Paiagallo La Villa 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Touch less aromatic than the Rosa. More spice, less fruit and floral. Darker spice, inky, road tar, barnyard.
    Plush, dark plums, minerals, gravel. Palate is bigger and more rich. Integrated tannins but higher alcohol coming across.

    Most robust of the Barolo. Meaty, exotic Asian spices, garrigue, soy, dusty cherries, molasses, fig.
    Savory touches on the palate with stewed red vegetables and tomatoes. Nice rusticity.
