Magnum. Confirms its reputation as one of the best NV's on the market. Broad and toasty, fresh and elegant, flavoursome and complete. A delightful and stylish aperitif.
An extremely rare wine, produced from only 600 vines in the Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg. Paired with the Riesling from the same vineyard and vintage. A lovely wine with excellent Orleans typicity, very pure and beautifully made. The ripe yellow fruit and subtle bitters remind one of Chardonnay. It does not have the flair or finesse of the Riesling, but it expresses itself very well.
A very attractive style, silky and suave, light and transparent but not anaemic, fresh and slightly herbal on the finish, rounded off but a lovely touch of slightly caramelly oak. Hard to believe that this was born near Deventer in the Netherlands...
Magnum. Beautiful nose of red meat, smoke, spices and minerals; is starting to lose weight on the palate, quite tannic; slightly drying finish, hint of cold tea. Still impressive but drink up, even in this "grand format".
Deep amber-gold, like a Bual Madeira, green rim; attractive nose, good depth, caramel and Huxelrebe flowers, mineral freshness, hint of old "Firne"; medium sweet palate, lovely oval shape, caramel and butterscotch flavours, intense, bright acidity, balancing Alpine bitters; excellent length. Not the most complex or refined of TBA's, but very impressive for what it is - and at almost 40 years of age. The bottle still carried the original pricetag from Weinhaus Altenessen in Essen (Germany) - they charged DM 97.60, no trifling sum in the late 1970's!
Pristine bottle. Double decanted. Silk and cedar, medium dry, classic Dow style, fresh and elegant, mature but retains its tannic grip, lovely flavours of red fruit and cocoa; hint of eucalyptus on the finish, very good length. It will dry out eventually, but I don't think my six remaining bottles will last that long...
