Introduction

Mr. Vincent Avenel (Faiveley's export director) was in town and this tasting was organised at Hermitage's Wine Bar. At S$29 (~US$23), this was quite a steal considering we had 6 wines plus some canapes...

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2012 Faiveley Chardonnay Bourgogne Joseph Faiveley

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

    Faiveley tasting at Hermitage. Bright, fresh and fruity nose. A straightforward wine - fresh, vibrant, citrusy and a slight bit of nuttiness (or is it almond) around the mid-palate. The freshness carries through to the medium-length'ed finish.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 2010 Faiveley Meursault 1er Cru Blagny

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

    A step up from the Bourgogne Blanc. Apart from the floral notes on the nose, I could also detect a bit of flintiness/spice as well. This had a much fuller/rounder palate made up of mainly tropical fruits, as well as a tad of spice towards the end. It is balanced with the right acidity to give it a good finish.

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 2012 Faiveley Mercurey

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey

    Bright pinkish-ruby. Cherries on the nose; A bit "candied" though... On the palate - red fruit profile, again "candied-cherry" sweetness, but well balanced with right amount of acidity. Grippy tannins towards the end. Medium-length'ed...

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 2011 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

    Bright-ruby. Aromas of flowers and red-fruits on the nose. This definitely has more structure, body and weight than the Mercurey. Earth & cherries on the palate, delivered in a silky package with medium length. Quite a stylish wine for a village.

  • 2011 Faiveley Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

    Dark-ruby color. Nose of flowers (roses) as it opened up in the glass. This is definitely a classier wine than the 2 before. Red-fruited, polished, silky and more finesse. Tannins appear to be well managed. Could detect a tinge of astringency (bitterness) at the end of the palate though. Nevertheless still a good wine...

  • 2011 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    Dark-red. Reticent nose at first, but opened up to reveal some flowery notes. Of note is the nose seems to have this "airy", classy feel... Of the 4 red wines this evening, this had the most presence, body and weight on the palate. Comes with a bit of spice too. Similar to the Charmes, this also seemed to have that bitterish note towards end of palate. That aside, fine tannins and good length.
