    Australia, South Australia

    Weak apricot nose, fresh clean, slight oilyness, medium finish but maybe a little hot on that finish. (14%abv £6.99)

  • 2004 Lost Valley Winery Cortese 80 Points

    Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Upper Goulburn

    Pale straw colour, lemony taste, full bodied but not a lot going on. (14% £12.99)

  • 2004 Cumulus Merlot Climbing 79 Points

    Australia, New South Wales, Central Ranges, Orange

    Drak red, firm and acidic with noticeable tannins but not much else. Attractive label tho' (13.5% £8.99)

  • 2003 RingBolt Cabernet Sauvignon 87 Points

    Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

    Dark red, fresh with an attractive tangy fruitiness. Very nice (14% abv £8.99)

  • 2000 Charles Melton Nine Popes 82 Points

    Porty nose, rounded ripe fruits and some sweetness. A blend of Grencahe/Shiraz/Mataro (aka Mourvedre) (14.5% £25)

  • 1993 St Hallett Shiraz Old Block 79 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa

    Warm raisiny nose, thinning and stringent, some fruit left but quickly thins in glass . Oh dear, I have a bottle of this I haev been saving and now it seems Ihave kept it too long. (13.5%abv)

  • 2001 St Hallett Shiraz Old Block 82 Points

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa

    Murky dark red, some tangy fruits but surprisingly light bodied. Disappointing. (14%abv £16)

  • 2004 Brown Brothers Late Harvest Orange Muscat & Flora 80 Points

    Australia, Victoria

    Pale, thin bodied and rather watery and not very interesting. It is not that sweet. I was expecting a dessert wine in similar to their Orange Muscat/Flora) and with a pudding it comes over quiet dry. More an apertif wine methinks. (11%abv £5.99 for 75cl)

Closing

Another enjoyable evening tasting wines as they should be drunk -- with food. Very disappointed in the state of the 1993 Old Block Shiraz. Paul bought it second-hand so we don't know how well its has been stored and maybe my bottle will be better. Hope so.

The wine with the group's highest average score was Nine Popes, followed by2001 Old Block with Ringbolt and Brown Brothers tieing for first place. Very rare the sweetie doesn't come top :)
