Introduction

A mystery box filled with wines, it felt that the wines were badly stored

  • 2007 Palivou Estate Nemea Flawed

    Greece, Peloponnisos, Nemea

    Clear pale ruby color.
    The nose is clean, med/med+ intensity, sweet aromas, lactic notes, butter, milky, vanilla, sweet oak, red cherries, red berries, ripe strawberry, "dusty" ripe black berry, developed.
    The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, med+/high (faulty?) acidity, the alcohol feels med+, aggressive medium tannins, no fruit recognisable, flavors of plastic (balloon like), dried red currant, med finish.
    Bad storage ?

    Clean pale to medium ruby color.
    Clear, med/med+ intensity with ripe red & black berry, curred meat, cedar, light marmelade, mocca notes underlying reductive notes, developing.
    The wine is dry, med+ body, med intensity, med+(high?) alcohol, med acidity, tannins medium, fig, prunes, black berries and cherries, ripe strawberries, extreme alcohol heat, metallic/steely nasty flavor, med finish.
    Good quality, high price, drink now

    Clear pale ruby color.
    Clean, med intensity, bubblegum red cherry, light reductive notes, a bit animal notes as well, tamato leaves/vegetable hints, youthful.
    The wine is dry, med body and intensity, med alcohol and acidity, med tannins, red cherry and berry, balanced, a thin oak layer, med-/med finish.
    Good quality, high price, drinking now

    The nose is unclean, closed, corked?, stewed fruit, reduction, wet earth, wet wood
    The wine is dry, med body and intensity, med acidity and alcohol, med tannins, rubbery and grainy texture, black cherries, vegetal and tiny bitter hint, warm med finish.

  • 2005 Palivou Estate Merlot Terra Leone Private Cuvée 84 Points

    Clear medium ruby color.
    The nose is unclean, med intensity, fresh plank notes (too much oak?), redcurrant, stale red fruit, earth notes, milk chocolate, with air it gets better. Developing/developed
    The wine is dry, med body and intensity, med alcohol and acidity, med tannins, bitter, blackcurrant, chewy, fig, prune, med-/med finish.
    Good quality, high/premium price, drink now.

    It felt that it needed time to open up but all wines were tested under the same looking glass so...

    Clear med purple color.
    The nose is clean, med+ intensity, wet earth, black berry, black currant, dense sweet spice, vanilla scented oak, plum chutney, youthful to developing.
    The wine is dry, med body and intensity, med+ acidity and med alcohol, med tannins, offensive chewy dense metallic off flavor, med finish.
    Passing fair in for not calling in faulty

  • 2005 Alpha Estate Syrah Xinomavro Merlot 83 Points

    Clear medium purple.
    The nose is clean, medium intensity, red cherry, vanilla, bubblegum?, red berry, a strange peachy note, developing.
    The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, medium alcohol and acidity, medium tannins with a small drying effect, thin concentration in the midpalate, dilluted, red cherry and berry, a thin oak layer in the med-/med finish.
    Good quality, med/high price, drink now.
    I was sadly surprised when the wine's identity was unveiled.

    The nose is clean, med intensity, red currant, red cherry, red berry, cinnamon, nutmeg, a hint of vegetal/bell pepper note, light cigar box, developed.
    The wine is dry, medium body and intensity, medium alcohol and acidity, medium tannins, balanced, coffee beans, chocolate and mocca, nice structure, sweet spices, med+ finish.
    Very good finish, high/premium price, drinking now but could hold
