  • 2001 Dominus Estate 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Balanced and mellow. Lots of silky red and dark fruits. Had some liquorice and vanilla in the background. Extremely lush. Finish was very long. Tannins round, fine and plentiful. A very elegant and nuanced wine.

  • 2002 Dominus Estate 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    More intense than the 2001. Tannic structure is much larger. Chocolates, Coffee and lots of bright red fruits. Tannins are large, voluptuous, grippy and slightly viscous. The finish was weaker than the 2001.

  • 2006 Dominus Estate 91 Points

    Very tannic, still somewhat closed and reticent. Structure and fruit all present. Tannins large, mouth coating and very viscous. Finish moderately long. Slightly bitter. Large gobs of bright red and dark fruits.

  • 2008 Dominus Estate 93 Points

    Bright red fruits and tannins were big but extremely fine and elegant. Much more than the 2006. More open then the 2006 and very fresh on the palate. Fruit and structure was lean and fresh. Finish moderately long. About the same length as the 2006 but the body is lighter.

  • 2009 Dominus Estate 96 Points

    Fantastic wine. The most impressive out of all the wines tried. Fresh with bright red fruits. Tannins are slightly viscous but round and elegant. Finish long. Very balanced and complete. Somewhat like the 2001 Dominus but more potent, complex, elegant and fresh.

  • 2010 Dominus Estate 95 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Very restrained at this point of time. Tight and holding back. Lots of power and intensity. This will be a huge wine with beautiful full flavours and tannins in the future. It has a very large juicy tannic structure. Aging is definitely required. At least 10 years or more. Very promising future. Not worth the 100pts now but could be in time.

Closing

The 2009 turned out to be quite like the 2001 but delivers more in each department. The 2010 and the 2006 are still very closed and should be aged longer. The 2008 is somewhere in the middle of the 2009 and 2010 but still not yet ready for drinking. 2001, 2002 and 2009 can be drunk now with much pleasure.
