Impromptu Dinner on a Friday Night

Introduction

What is better than an evening with friends? one that is totally unexpected, of course!
this was "on the fly - lets drink something" affair and I must thank Eric and Deb for the
food and hospitality. oh and the Polish food just hit the spot.... :)

Both wines showed not only marvelously - they both showed young and opened ore and more as the evening progressed.
Really amazing potential and it is making me regret i have so few Chianti wines in my cellar.
Something tells me I must remedy the situation.

The Chianti was "modern-esque" - with 10% Cab and 5% Merlot - which gave it the extra lushness but
overall was very serious Sangio. And one amazing QPR.

The BDX blend was just eye-opening. I havent had any of these wines from the region and
I am looking forward to trying more.

2013 Emrich-Schönleber Riesling Mineral trocken 90 Points

Germany, Nahe

Lemon and ... minerals. Peach with some tart notes. Ripe mid. Nice Finish. Yum . Bit simple but refreshing.

2001 Marchesi Mazzei Chianti Classico Castello di Fonterutoli 92 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Amazingly - this felt a lot younger after being open for 2 hours. Leather. Iron, sweet spices, botarga. Mid is rich with plum and red fruit. Ripe and thick. Earthy mid. Touch of modern thickness close to finish. with time - sweeter and more lush. Good long finish. with time - more grip on the finish. No hurry to drink this wine. Gorgeous stuff

2004 San Leonardo San Leonardo 94 Points

Italy, Trentino Alto-Adige / Veneto, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT

Ripe rich plum, touch bell pepper, sweet spices, mid is lush, with excellent acidity, long ripe finish. Broad with a touch of tannic grip. Bit of tobacco leaf. with time - lusher, riper but still amazingly balanced. Drinks very young - and is likely to age amazingly. Delicious BDX blend that, IMO, would stand up in any Bdx blend setting. excellent and eye-opening.
