Introduction

An impromptu comparative tasting as I ran a few traditional food match wines against Lamb chops and asparagus. The joy of the Coravin!

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2002 Château Rauzan-Ségla

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

from Coravin. Biscuit, toast, red currant…more of the same on the palate, quite tart with slightly drying but fine tannins. Okay

  • 2006 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Tinto Pesquera

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

from Coravin. On the nose almost figs, cream, vanilla, leather, red fruit, spice, also slight herby notes. In the mouth the wine has a medium plus body and is almost off dry with flavours of figs and plums and plentiful spice. Quite large on the palate. Nice

  • 2007 Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot

Closing

The Rauzen was elevated by the lamb and asparagus (as it was before), the Tinto became creamier and even more rich, the Rioja shone and the Vasse just swamped the meat and veg.
