Introduction

Full MOR scoring sheets for all wines. Not blind and all wines other than the Witchery were Coravin'd. Witchery were decanted for 3 hours.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2013 Witchery Sauvignon Blanc 92 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Buttery with a significant amount of sugary smooth mid palate main body. Light acidity in the finish. This maybe a little too quaffable?

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2012 Witchery Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

Had this on a night when tasting three of their wines and a few others cabs/bordeaux blends so a very interesting comparison.

This is a classic Napa Cab. Cassis nose with moderately strong tannins (7/10). This was decanted for 3 hours and it needed it given its youthfulness. I could even have a few more hours.

  • 2011 Witchery Proprietors Reserve Red 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

A hint of chalk in the nose. Dark purple/red color. This is a very young wine and it needs decanting. Great with food. I think this will improve with a few years and may move significantly in scoring.

Flight 3 (3 Notes)

  • 2002 Flora Springs Trilogy 83 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

This did not do well in tonight's tasting. It had been Coravin'd in September and not sure if that had an impact. It may seem to have.

Petroleum on the nose with a hint or prunes. Copper edge - just not a good bottle?

  • 2003 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon John Riddoch 88 Points

Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra

Light brown with a hint of dry dust. Tannins are smooth and lighter now. 6/10. Some acid in the finish and dry as normal for the wine.

  • 2000 Hartenberg Cabernet Sauvignon 89 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

A strong barnyard nose that blows off fairly quickly. Lighter cab compared to the Napa Witchery with 6/10 tannins.
