2002 Pahlmeyer Jayson Red Wine 93 Points

Initially very tight and closed, would have benefitted from decanting. After 30 minutes in the glass, this wine burst open to reveal a lush, elegant wine that has a lot of depth and complexity. Aromas/flavors of currant, black cherry, blackberry and a hint of chocolate. Nicely structured, fine grained tannins and a long, lingering finish makes you want more.

2001 Pride Mountain Vineyards Merlot 93 Points

Elegant, rich and intense. Hedonistic wine made from mountain fruit. Aromas/flavors of blueberry, black cherry, currant, mocha, earth and a hint of oak. Long, rich, lingering finish, ending with a nice touch of dark chocolate. Robert Foley knows what to do with mountain fruit and this effort from Pride is no exception.

2001 Delectus Merlot Stanton 93 Points

This wine continues to amaze me. Beautiful structured, with tons of cherry, plum, vanilla and chocolate on the nose balanced by fine, grained tannins. Long, lucious finish that ends with a hint of cocoa powder. Just picked up another case as my wine merchant closed it out for $19.99/btl.

1997 S. Anderson Brut Rosé 92 Points

Well made Brut Rose that has beautiful aromas of orange blossom, melon, and roses. Elegant mouthfeel. Flavors of honey, apricot and quince excite the mouth and the clean, lingering finish is the exclamation point that this wine is not your ordinary CA sparkler.

NV Perrier-Jouët Champagne Grand Brut 92 Points

As good as past bottles. Very good NV French Champagne. Aromas/flavors of yeast, apple cider, pear and pronounced minerality. Creamy mouthfeel, followed by crisp, refreshing finish.

1999 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve 91 Points

Well made CA Cab tribute to Bordeaux. Complex and interesting nose, delivering cedar, leather, currant, earth and spice. Restrained fruit is balanced by the nicely structured tannins. Long finish. For those looking for Fruit Bomb CA Cabs this wine is not for you.

2002 Laird Family Estate Chardonnay Cold Creek Ranch 91 Points

Much better than the WS review. Big, rich, elegant styled Chard. Pear, apple, and pineapple on the nose. Nice buttery richness in the mouth. Nice balance and finish.

2003 Kilikanoon Shiraz Killerman's Run 91 Points

Aromas of blueberry, smoke, vanilla and a hint of pepper. Tons of fruit in the mouth, with very good structure and layered intensity. Well balanced tannins and a lingering finish. Terrific Value.

This has quickly become one of our favorite CA Sauv Blancs. Well balanced, great food wine, that provides nice citrus fruits, a touch of minerals and plenty of acidity to deliver a very good value.

Second bottle confirms prior note. Great value. $15 merlot that has lots of depth and complexity. Layered fruit flavors and a pleasant finish made this a big hit at our Holiday Party.

Big hit at the Holiday Party. Ladies loved it and consumed 3 bottles. Aromas/flavors of apple and pear with hints of strawberry. Good acidity balances the fruit and provides good structure.

Nice Spring Mountain Cab. Intense fruit and nice depth and complexity. Well balanced with nice tannin struture. Medium long finish. Just a notch below the best Spring Mountain has to offer.

2002 Bommarito Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 89 Points

Good value second label from Whitehall Lane. This opening price point CA Cab delivers lots of red/black fruit, a nice bit of oak and supple (drink me now) tannins. What this wine does not deliver is the depth and complexity offered from its Big Brothers, Napa and Reserve Cabs. Still, this is an very good tasting wine for those who don't age their cabs.

Decent mid-priced under $30 pinot. Enticing nose of red fruits, earth and spice. Very approachable now considering its youth. Nice balance of fruit and acidity but finish is too short to merit a better rating. Nice and simple.

Decent Rutherford Cab at value price compared with the offerings from the neighborhood. Not overly complex but offers simple fruit, nice tannin structure and the signature Rutherford Dust on the finish.
