A molded cork that was totally black. The wine was heavily corked - classic wet cardboard/potato. Looking past the corked, the wine was mellow and soft. Clearly at a prime though no fruit could be discerned. Dry finish.
I think with some more decanting this is a few points higher.
Dark red and for me a classic french bordeaux nose.(Proven wrong later at the unveiling but interesting to see other tasters - not just on the night - but on cellartracker - think the same) Minerality comes through with high acidity. Fresh tobacco in the nose. Tannins 8/10 full bodied with a backbone of Cabernet Franc comes through.
Classic French Bordeaux nose and palate. Tannins 7.5/10. High acidity in the nose - somewhat youthful nose appearance. (proved not to be young on unveiling)
No decanting on this one - popped and poured -Strong tannins 7/10 and balanced. The shiraz backbone comes through. A hint of brown in the rim? Full bodied and enjoyable.
