a couple came over for dinner - they are just learning about wine and thus we put together a nice meal and friendly wines. Aus.Shiraz is not my thing - i like old world styled reds, but it seems to be more friendly to those who are new and generally were weaned on sweet soviet wines.
Salad of arugula and orange slices with basamic vinegar and orange olive oil. and some fresh bread :)
Glass - spieglau white
Leg of lamb, medium rare, and roasted rosemary potatoes. yum!
after that was done - a flight of 3 different cheeses, grapes and crackers
Glass - spieglau Bordeaux
semi-bitter chocolate (lindt 77%)
Glass - spieglau port
Thanks to my dear wife for her cooking and our friends for the company.
oh well - last tasing note for a few weeks - going on antibiotics so wont be able to drink for at least 2 weeks.
2002 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhauser Riesling 90 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
last bottle of this - i do have 2 kabs and 2 spats though so i am not worried.
Lots of sulpher on opening. I would decant - at least an hour or more. It bagan as sweet but delicious wine but over the eveing the sugar receaded and the minerality and flowers took over. this is just delicious and light - i can drink this all day.
