Second project supper with Greg and Juanita to celebrate the near end of our project and that the two of them were going on holiday to leave me to finailise everything in their absence. Bah. Standard set up as in they paid for corkage and dinner and I brought the wine. Tasting notes were written after the event on the same evening, hence the seeming randomness and paucity of detail.
A lovely night…lots of banter, Greg poured a glass of wine over himself early doors to set the level and things descended from there. Suffice to say I really didn’t need the fist sized gine and tonic that juanita's husband poured me when I got back to their place...lots of winners here, the Lambrusco wasn't as good as last time I tried it and the Croizet Bages was disappointing from such a strong vintage. Perhaps a marginally dud bottle?
2012 Paltrinieri Lambrusco di Modena Greto
Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Lambrusco di Modena DOC
Cherry, bone dry, juicy acidity, lovely with the food but...not as good as previous vintages I've had.

Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Rich, unctuous, viscose, apricot and ginger, quite spicy in fact. Very pleasant

2007 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Spicy ripe red berries, quite warm with very slight leather and pepper. Though the fruit is ripe it's not sweet but dry with fine tannins and slight herbaceous almost tobacco leaf notes on the finish. Nice.

2005 Château Croizet-Bages
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Leather, slight oxidation, brambly black fruit, autumn forest, very Bordeaux. On the plate juicy with tiny cassis then firm tannins and quite perfumed notes. Hmm

France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Violets, tar, leather, blackcurrant, horse sweat, cedar…lovely nose, juicy rich and far less sour than the last bottle I had. Rather splendid
