New Years Eve - Family Friends and Fun

Introduction

This year had its share of ups and downs - but last night we came to celebrate its high notes and usher in a brand new year - with hopes and glasses in hand.
Glad to have Eric and Deb join the Lipyansky Family for this "very russian" New Years... the only thing missing was the Vodka...but somehow i think we survived.

    tropical fruit, rich, with hints of lemon, mid is ripe with fruit balanced by great acidity. long finish. this is just lovely now.

    new oak, vanilla, cherry cola nose. mid is balanced - with good acidity and some black fruit. medium finish. the core reminds of a CA pinot but is lighter.

    another lovely Rhys wine. mushrooms, soy, orange peel nose. great pinot funkyness. cherry and zing in the mid, lighter toward the front but builds into a more dark cherry finish. delicious and worth the wait.

  • 2010 Domaine du Grapillon d'Or Gigondas 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas

    young. this is 80% Gren and 20% Syr. - but the nose shows more syrah - with rich ripe blackberry and sweaty, meaty component. with time - the cranberry pops up. Young wine - mid is rich and ripe with lush, mouthcoating fruit. finish has a deep note of herbs and spices.

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain

    Ripe cab nose. blackberry, pencil, pepper. mid is ripe and young. sweet fruit dominate but the core is very present - with clean acidity and a bit of a tannic grip. scipy notes in the middle mix well with the black and red fruit. excellent wine!
