Introduction

Dropped by Extra Space for a short while for 2 Chenin Blancs, then came home to a surprise visit from Jess. Popped a bottle of Moscato d'Asti.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2013 Simonsig Chenin Blanc 87 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
    Nose is medium intensity, with initial burnt matchstick/sulphur which blew off after a while, and aromas of slight stony mineral and tropical pineapple. Youthful.
    On the palate, dry, medium acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium+ body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of tropical pineapple and ripe pear. The lacking acidity gives this a rather rounded mouth-feel, and with the alcohol level of 13.5%, this wine has a feeling of a fuller body. Medium finish.
    Acceptable quality. Overall, not a very balanced wine. Drink up fresh, not for further ageing.

  • 2013 Pinelli Estate Chenin Blanc Family Reserve 88 Points

    Australia, Western Australia, Greater Perth, Swan Valley

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium- intensity, with aromas of slight stony mineral, and citrus lemon. Youthful.
    On the palate, off-dry, tongue-stinging high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon and sweet honeyed pineapple. Medium+ finish.
    Good quality. Good acidity to balance the off-dry sweetness. Not enough fruit intensity and complexity going on though. Drink up fresh, probably will not improve much with further ageing.

  • 2012 Albino Rocca Moscato d'Asti 88 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Moscato d'Asti

    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Fizzy. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium- intensity, with aromas of floral honeysuckle, honey and slight minerality. Youthful.
    On the palate, sweet, balanced with refreshing high acidity, low alcohol, medium- body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of lychee, honeysuckle, and slight chrysanthemum. Medium- finish.
    Good quality Moscato d'Asti. Drink up while fresh.
