Domaine Hudelot-Noellat Tasting And Dinner organised by Goedhuis & Co

We are extremely pleased that Charles van Canneyt is joining us to host an exclusive tasting and dinner during the En Primeur campaign in January. Domaine Hudelot-Noellat is one of the Cote de Nuits’ most famous estates with substantial vineyard holdings in some of the most famous Grand and 1er Crus surrounding Vosne Romanee and their home village of Vougeot. Having run the estate for 30 years, Alain Hudelot passed on the estate to his extremely able grandson Charles Van Canneyt in 2008 who has balanced maintaining the traditional family values, with progressing the estate into a new era of outstanding quality. Unquestionably one of the most dynamic young winemakers in the Cote d’Or, this offers a brilliant opportunity to taste the stunning wines of Domaine Hudelot Noellat and meet their young wine maker at first hand.

Unfortunately the 2013 barrel samples did not make it, so Goedhuis provided a selection of white burgundy's to try before the dinne.

  Very taught, nose dominated by smoke, although some citrus notes are there. This needs time - a good couple of years more.

  Rich, full, quite voluptuous, perhaps lacking a bit of minerality and freshness I look for in Chassagne Montrachet, but still very good.

  Buttery, nutty, with a lot of different white fruits. Classic Meursault. Very enjoyable.

  Clear, crimson red. Clean nose, bright fruit, spice, earth. Medium palate, lots of energy and freshness, really approachable. Medium+ finish.

  Clear, ruby red, still very youthful. Clean nose, red fruits, nuts of spice, quite light. Velvet palate, beautifully integrated, not heavy, great freshness. Long finish. Delicious.

  Clear, dark ruby red with hints of brick. Clean nose, intense dark fruits, quite evolved. Full palate, dense but nicely integrated. Long finish.

• 2001 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant 94 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru

  Clear, intense ruby red, slight bricking to the edge. Dark fruits, spice on the nose. Fresh, clean palate, beautifully integrated, very fine, only just starting to develop secondary notes. Long finish. Excellent wine.

• 1999 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot 91 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru

  Clear, intense brick red. Clean nose, very savoury, dark fruits, Earth, truffles, leather. Full palate, Sinilar to the nose, but with a slight hint of bitterness. Long finish. Very good.

• 2003 Château Doisy-Daëne 89 Points

  Dark amber yellow. Clean nose, apricots, honey, biscuits. Full palate but with nice acidity giving freshness despite the sweetness. Very good.

Delicious Burgundy wines from a fabulous estate - my first opportunity to try them. My personal favourite was the Romanée St Vivant. I particularly liked the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Charmes of the more recent wines.
