Introduction

Ulla brought the wines, I tasted double blind.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2012 Joseph Drouhin Rully 86 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A very light purpley red. The nose was initially a bit acrid, but with a bit of air there were light aromas of strawberry and a bit of match stick. It did deepen a bit with even more air, but clearly this was young. The palate was light with good acidity, cranberry, again very young and perhaps a bit unforgiving at the moment. Give it some years in the cellar and it could turn into something very nice.

  • 2011 Seven Falls Cellars Merlot 86 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Wahluke Slope

    Decanted, tasted double blind. A dark purple, looking young. Also the nose was very young, but also very full on, coffee, toffee, chocolate, a real punch on the nose. The palate was also full on, strong vanilla-toffee-oak, dark fruit, with enough acidity to save it from being gloopy. A bit too big for my tastes.

Closing

Two interesting if young wines. Both could do with more time in the cellar.
