Flight 2 - Main Event Double Blind (6 Notes)

  • 2007 Equis St. Joseph

France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph

Thick, dark color; nose screams N. Rhone, black pepper, tapenade, brine, granite, plum, wild berry, a little rustic; palate is rich and thicker with slightly rougher tannin than normal velvet- stems?, mineral, tart dark berry, shrill acid that comes out with air and becomes almost vinegary; more balanced than last bottle but the air quickly brought out this unwanted character.

Crimson core with lighter rim, see through; graham cracker, fig, raspberry, rich and larger body, ripe though classic CdP character, baby Aspirin; nice rich texture, ripe fruit but good taut quality which comes from the bitter red fruit; good.

Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane

Black core with reddish purple rim; tire, plastic, reductive as heck, blackberry, dark fruit, brooding, tobacco; strong tannin, big and brutish, when it finally opens a bit with air it reveals nutty reddish dark fruit; good, decant.
