Our annual trip to MdC! Great friends, Great skiing and of course some great food and of course wine!

An instritution, and should not be missed when travelling to MdC.Long late lunch at Chalet Fiat. The moto is "Ski like a teenager in the morning and roll up to the peak of Spinale and go to Chalet Fiat at 2pm and let your self go at the hands of Dante the Great!"

  Opened and served. Nebbiolo on the nose with good cherry but thats about where the comparison ends. A bit angular and harsh and with no real character. Need we say more? 83

  Not a full TN here and out of memory. A good wine and of good value for money. Drinks ok now and has pretty good fruit to help it last but not a magical wine. 88

  Two very consistent and very good bottles. Small and dare we say artisanal producer. An amarone with less weight and ripeness/richness. At a good time to be enjoyed now albeit it easily could last another 5 years. A good change from the typical amarone. A very good 90 from us.

  A great digestif, well balanced and the great ending (at least for the last few years) of our lunches at Chalet Fiat in MdC. The combination works very well and the 30% alc does not make this overpowering or sharp. A pure joy as always.

Tacked away and need specialist tyres in snow to get to but a very good , agrotourismo style chalet. Fully focusse don food from local ingredients and local wines makes for a very good experience. A bit on the modern side though so if you are looking for the rustic style this is not it. Ok wine list.

  Blind we would struggle to pin it down as a pinot noir as it has none of the aromatics or palate fee of Pinot. Quite a bit of rish dark fruits but overall we found it on the generic side and did not strike a chord nor did it evolve. Uninspiring at best. 84-85

  A slight whiff of pinot aromatics but much like other Pinot Noir wines from the area we struggle to draw parallels with what we are used to. An ok wine, decent fruit, young still and with a few harsh edges but not really memorable other than for the label. 87-89

  Much like the Pinot Noirs fromt he area, not really a Pinot Noir int he conventional sense, a bit more fruity than than others (Like the Hofstatter we had before , Papies - 84) and thus easier to drink, but still uninspiring as a wine. 85 at best

  Very young and powerful, upfront, lots of fruit but also tannin and very alcoholic. 2 hours in a decanter did very little to relax and develop this wine. Big cab sauv wine. Primary still and hopefully time with help it develop. Too strong now. 87

  The product/blend of 10 vintages hence the name and we believe the first one to be released. Effectively a late harvest wine. An ok wine, enjoyable and with good weight but not really memorable or exceptional. Good value and for the money it will not dissapoint. 89

  Similar to the 2011 (Rated 89) a well made example of beautiful Barbera. It is not ready yet and had a few sharp edges and we woudl easily suggest at least a year of cellaring. Decent core of fruit, but overall on the muted side. Good ripe fruit on the palate. Elegant old school barbera. 88

  A pretty solid wine and a very nice surprice. Rich and powerfull, good ripe core but with good acidity to keep ieverythign in check. Youngish and fresh but not in any way angular or harsh. Very nice. 91

By far the best and our favorite restaurant in MdC. 1 Michellin star, great food and an amazing wine cellar at great prices. Always a great exerience.

• 1995 Cantina Terlan Chardonnay Rarity 96 Points

  A masterpiece and easily the wine of the 2015 Trip.
  Difficult to believe that this is 20years old now. Still glossy in colour and albeit shows a bit of weight it is nowhere near losing its sparkle. The nose has an initial wiff of oak but hen that des away and the citrus side take charge, lemony, green lemon mostly. On the palate it is energetic, and vibrant , beautiful balance and as elegant as it gets. 96 easy, maybe more and with lots of life ahead.

• 1997 San Leonardo San Leonardo 93 Points

  Two very consistent bottles here and we have to say the first of the San Leonardos we have come across to really impress us. A few people at our table commentred that this wine puts their fate back in Trentino wines. And rightly so.
  Decanted for 40minues. The nose is well open, black pepper, light smoky, darkfruits. Shows some secondary notes of leather too but the smoky/peppery side dominated. Ont he palate it shows its age and is well developed but still with a solid core of fruit. Split us a bit of rating with Nicol 92 & Andreas 94. So 93 and drink now.

  From Magnum and decanted for like 1.5 hours.
  Getting better and better and definitely has improved since 2012 when we came across this (Again in Magnum and Rated 93). Much more open and retty much ready from the word go. Dark in colour, dense. On the notes, violets, dark fruit, cherry. The oak is almost fully assimilated. On the palate it has depth and complexity and evern traditionalists like us loved the character of ths wine. Much like its siblling the Percristina (Papies 95) is in a great place but this one need a touch more time to develop its true potential. Great wine still and the future will only get better. 94-95

• 2011 Cantina Terlan Terlano Terlaner I Primo Grande Cuvée 93 Points

  Our first experience from this special cuvee which aims to rival , apparently in blind tastings it wins over, montrachet. The wine is definitely one of the highest quality combining fruit from the best crus of terlan and split 85% Pinot Bianco, 10% Chardonnay, 5% Sauvignon Blanc. But it is also very young and needs maybe an easy 5yrs to evolve to where it can get. Best one stays for the moment at their Chardonnay Raritas for similar prices. 93 for now but it could easily get a lot better with time. We would suggest one waits.

  Not at the same level as Mrs Peyrot's Poire Williams au Cognac. A lot more sweet and confectionary. More of a liquer than a digestif. Good still.

  Not for the light hearted. This is powerfull and dominated by the alcohol. Sharp and one need to like this style to enjoy. We couldn't.
