Introduction

Liked the Red Table - like a junior playground. Not quite the creativity but still nice.

The bartender passed her WSET and we completely geeked her out by pouring tasters blind and making her report back on what she got. She did very well until the Zinfandel and Cabernet round which punished everybody.

  • NV Camille Savès Champagne Grand Cru Carte d'Or Brut

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    Blind. Guess champagne. Light mouthfeel, nimble. Green apple palate with a real tangy finish. Great balance. The lightly golden color had me leaning towards a 10 year old vintage bubbly. I thought this was excellent. I love the non vintage rosé from the same producer. A little surprised by the relatively low pro reviews because even Steve, champagne aficionado, thought it was great.

  • 2012 Liquid Farm Chardonnay White Hill

    USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills

    Blind. I guess Cali chardonnay and Liquid Farm White Hill. I was fairly certain it was WH but could have been the '11 Golden Slope as it seems the '12 vintage shows more oak influence. Good acid and pear / lychee nut flavor. Medium level of oak.

  • 2009 Copain Pinot Noir Wentzel Vineyard

    USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

    Blind. Guessed cali pinot and had no idea on the producer but was chasing somebody that uses while cluster like Rhys. Dark color and burg nose but the alcohol is showing through. Ripe cherry fruit flavor, stem notes. Good stuff. Heat on the finish. What's the ABV? 13.7 I completely missed the mark on this one, there's no whole cluster but where does the stem notes come from? The grapes? The oak? And what causes the heat to be revealed on a lower ABV?

  • 2012 Carlisle Zinfandel Papera Ranch

    USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

    Blind. Guessed syrah and after it was reveled as Zinfandel I'm still saying its syrah. LOL There is quite a nice big red plum note which is really the only Zin tipoff. Huge wine, pepper, sweet spicy BBQ sauce.

  • 2012 Switchback Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Peterson Family Vineyard

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Blind. Guessed petite sirah and Switchback. Really dark wine, I mean REALLY dark. Extremely concentrated wine. High heat steaming out of the glass. Milk chocolate and dark berry liqueur flavors. There's a nice menthol and eucalyptus note at the end. Chris S called this a Cabernet because of the menthol note, nicely played, sir. Labeled 15.5 ABV but it's definitely well north of that.

    I'd be very interested to have the Switchback petite Sirah and Cabernet side by side. The house definitely has a style.
