• 2011 Bodega Catena Zapata Chardonnay White Stones Adrianna Vineyard

  Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco, Gualtallary

  Stony, leaner fruit and less oak influence than the Alta, slight green note; very fresh acid, stony finish, lemon; 1er Cru quality, really good but not cheap.

  Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco, Gualtallary

  A little richer than the White Stones and a good bit more expensive, lemon, lime, slight oak influence; good mid palate, very bright finish.

  Dark purple with bright rim; blackberry, black currant, spice, green bean, bright and fruity; soft texture, good depth; simpler but tasty.

• 2010 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Nicasia Vineyard

  Argentina, Mendoza, Valle de Uco, Altamira

  Very dark and highly extracted; tar, tire, dense, black fruit; sweet fruit, soft fine grained tannin; serious though not as bright as I prefer; ok now but really needs 3-5 years.

  Tart raspberry, dark fruit; incense, burning embers, char, fresh pop of fruit on the finish keeps this from being too heavy; better with 2-4 years.

A wonderful tasting of Bodega Catena Zapata's high end wines & a new producer in El Enemigo. All very high quality wines, but the single vineyard Chardonnays were most impressive for me.
