Tenuta il Plino - Cesena (I)

Nice event, with the producer Alessandro Ramilli, we had the chance to discover almost the whole production, with some peculiar wines, including a 13 years aged Trebbiano (!!!) and a very nice Passito. The most outstanding feature of the wines is their high acidity, giving a very long age perspective also to Trebbiano and Romagna Sangiovese.

  Nice, consistent straw yellow, brilliant.
  Intense, complex and fine nose: gold plum, bergamot, walnuts and some sweet notes of acacia. Mineral background.
  Dry, alcoholic with a high acidity and minerality. Intense, persistent (for minerality) and fine. Still a bit unbalanced. From new vines. Steel only.

• 2001 Tenuta il Plino Tenuta del Falco Forlì IGT

  This is the old version of Plino della Taverna. 1 year barrique, on yeasts.
  Full straw yellow, consistent and almost brilliant.
  Intense, complex and fine nose: sweet at first: Vanilla and buttery, then tropical fruit (passion) and minerality. A strong fumè note coming out with time.
  Dry, alcoholic (14,5%). High minerality. Intense, very peristent and fine. A bit unbalanced, but pleasent. Very peculiar wine, I did not rated it.

• 2013 Tenuta il Plino Plino della Taverna Forlì IGT 83 Points

  This is actually a "late vintage".
  Same brilliant straw yellow, consistent.
  Medium intense at nose, but complex and fine. Here is the minerality (iodine) coming out at first, then agrumes (pampelmousse) and sweet notes: dry fighs, acacia flowers.
  Off-dry, alcoholic. Good body. The strong minerality and acidity hide the sugar and at first it seems almost dry!!
  Intense, persistent and fine. Ready, but will get better with time.

• 2008 Tenuta il Plino Naso di Falco Forlì IGT 83 Points

  Dark, full garnet red, with ruby rim. Consistent.
  Intense, complex and fine at nose: Fruity: ripe cherries in alcohol; spices: coffee, liquorice, fennel. Violet.
  Dry and alcoholic (15%); good acidity and minerality, but a very high, overwhelming tannin.
  Good body; Intense, persistent and fine at taste: fruity and spicy with a liquorice ending.
  Good structure, but still a long way to mature. This wine is a bet...could be a real champ.

  Full ruby red, with cherry rim. Consistent.
  Intense, complex and fine at nose: vegetal at first (sap!!), smashed leaves; then anis, blackcurrant.
  Dry, good acidity and minerality, with a strong but partially integrated tannin.
  Intense, persistent and fine, medium balanced. Nice liquorice hint. AiS Rom.<75

  Heavily reduced.
  And was a pity, with some hints of chewy red fruit, flowers and cloves.
  Very strong tannins to be tamed.

  Consistent crystalline golden yellow.
  Intense, complex and fine at nose: Dry apricots, green tea and candies. Enamel hints.
  Sweet and alcoholic; rounded, but with a good acidity and minerality. Intense, persistent and fine. Well balanced. Wide entry, with a long mineral ending

• 2000 Tenuta il Plino Algaia Forlì IGT 90 Points

  Consistent, brilliant amber colour.
  Intense, complex and fine at nose: candied agrumes, alcohol (whisky!), ginger, caramel.
  Sweet (190 gr. sugar), alcoholic and rounded. Nice acidity and minerality. Intense, persistent and very fine. Sweetness perfectly balanced by a very good acidity spine. Armonic.

Very interesting tasting. Particular accent on the Trebbiano (but they are not quite sure it is ACTUALLY a Trebbiano vineyard), but on whole production in general. Passito are top choice. 2008 Sangiovese could be a surprise in a few years.
