  Light yellow. Nose of lightly toasty oak and fruit. Medium weight with lush entry and good feel. Nice balance and back end structure. This does not feature its fruit right now. Reasonable for the price.

• 2012 Château de la Charrière Santenay 1er Cru Beauregard Blanc

  Medium yellow. Neutral scent. Lighter than the Savigny with more prominent wood, but some pear fruit. Overoaked for its material.

• 2012 Domaine Bachelet-Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

  Yellow with some green. Lemony nose. Elegant weight with some creaminess. Dry, citric, nice incorporation of fruit, acidity, and soil with discrete use of wood. Excellent village wine.

• 2012 Domaine Cyrot Buthiau Bourgogne

  Light ruby. Char aromatics. Richer and woodier than the Charriere with simple blue/black fruit and a dry tannic finish. More for the money than the former wine, but still not anything I would buy (especially considering some of the later wines in the flight that offer a lot more for a small additional price.

• 2012 Château de la Charrière Beaune Cuvée Vieilles Vignes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune

  Light red, pale edge. Pretty strawberry fruit. Appealing light weight, lively acidity, tart red fruit, and reasonable length. Now this is a good value and much more interesting than the Bourgogne. It would make a very creditable house red for everyday drinking.

  Light ruby center. Smells like a Savigny with brambly elements. Medium weight attack, black, briary fruit, excellent soil-inflected finish. Really good Pernand that could use a few years. Another good value.

• 2012 Château de la Charrière Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau

  Pale to the edge. Light, supple red fruit with lower acidity and a touch of charred oak and sap. Very nice, light feel, good complexity and gentle acidity. Good for current consumption.

• 2012 Domaine Cyrot Buthiau Santenay 1er Cru Clos Rousseau

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru

  Light ruby core-darker than the previous Clos Rousseau. Chewier than that wine with medium weight, better acidity. Predominant red fruit and moderate char. Fair amount of tannic grip. As opposed to the Charriere wine, this is altogether more serious and needs time to soften. I'm not so sure that it is better, though.

• 2012 Château de la Charrière Beaune 1er Cru Vignes Franches

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

  Ruby core, light rim. Herbal aromatics. This is the ripest, sweetest red fruit in any of the wines to this point. Wrapped in a medium weight package with good acidity to balance, moderate charred oak again, and some earth running through it. Fairly priced and very approachable now. One for the short term, though.

• 2012 Domaine Cyrot Buthiau Volnay

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay

  Ruby center. Perfumed. Light to medium body with gentle wood base and minimal char in this wine. Leaner black/red fruit, zippy, well concealed acidity more so than tannin giving it shape. I liked this, and it too would benefit from several years time.

• 2012 Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Renardes

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

  Light ruby with fading (lighter than the Volnay which preceded it). Candied fruit and herbs. Ripe cherry and licorice in the mouth. Quite expansive, tongue coating flavors. Pretty tame for a Corton, although more apparent grip on the back end after you swallow the wine. Excellent effort that will peak earlier than typical, less forgiving bottlings from this appellation.

Having not heard of these 2 properties which K&L are directly importing, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of this range, although neither producer seems shy about the use of charred cooperage for these light bodied wines. Both of the Delarche reds were very well done.
