Was on fire calling the first 4 then mine and the Castello di Ama really threw me off. It took a few wines before finishing strong with 3 in a row.
Some really interesting wines tonight.
#1- Benanti, first experience with producer, need to seek out
#2- Lancelot-Royer BdB, I love BdB
#3- Calcinaia Casarsa

Medium bubbles, steely yellow green; marzipan, green apple, pencil lead, ginger, delicate, yeast, medium richness, youthful; chalk on the palate, good power richness and depth; needed more air to open fully; delicious; obvious as a Blanc de Blancs.

2000 Château Laroque Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Opaque core with garnet rim; chocolate, raspberry, ripe and round, tar; larger scaled, soft tannin, some acid, herbs, medicinal, currant; seemingly a bit lobotomized with the lack of structure and mid palate; called St. Emilion but new vintage.

2008 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino

Dull crimson core with bricking, some age, good clarity; radish, cranberry, Band-Aid, sour cherry, bitter, vegetal; Brett reveals itself on the palate, bitter, almost Grenache-like, some green, Brunello, dried red fruit; called L. Sassetti Pertimali because they are one of the few Brunello producers with Bretty barrels; seemed older- probably tougher vintage.

Dull brick core with lighter onion skin rim, lots of sediment; dried roses, red fruit, anise, sour cherry, light herbs; more classic Nebbiolo on the palate, plum skin, sour cherry; called '00 Barolo.

Opaque core with bright purple rim; Dimetap grape flavoring, clove, cinnamon, sugar, really rocky, black pepper, violets, tangy raspberry; smooth palate, garrigue, floral, tangy, long finish, grip in the back half, fresh; interesting and very good; would have called this if I hadn't have brought it.

Dull plum, decent clarity; clove, cinnamon, yeast, marzipan, rich and round, stem, very confused with this one; very modern and thick for Sangio, I was on N. Rhone or super modern Barolo, weird.

Dull see through crimson with rusty rim; plump soft cherry, cinnamon, roses, sexy, plum, soft; great mid palate, very Poggio di Sotto-like; awesome, thought it was great Brunello, was not getting volcanic influence.

Black core with thin dull reddish purple rim; dark fruit, ripe, rich, pencil lead, dull, black currant, vanilla, young; big, rich, harder, ripe black and purple fruit, dark chocolate; was in Ribera del Duero with the dill note, the Bordeaux character has not yet emerged, won't venture to guess when to open.
