Introduction

Justin was in town, so we got together to drink some more serious wines.

Flight 1 (11 Notes)

  • 2010 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Bright maroon to rim; Burg, medicinal, cherry, sour, plum skin, sweet, juicy, limestone; some clay, harder on the palate, cherry pit but sweeter, concentrated, almost closed, masculine; good, would like to see it unwind a bit.

Closing

Wow, what an evening. Some really great wines. Many were young and have tons of upside potential but they were still drinking well.

#1- Roumier, he's a genius for that just being Village
#2- Salvioni, great stuff that would have easily been #1 any other night
#3- Zyme/Poggio di Sotto, another battle between Burg and Italian, really a toss up of which one was better

The Bordeaux were awesome tonight, too. The tannins were there but they had nice fruit and texture without being overtly tannic. I think they will be great with some age.
