France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Very dark core, sediment, plum rim; plum, blackberry, bitter chocolate, ash, ripe, olive, slightly cooked fruit; rich, medicinal, very black fruit, hard, lead pencil, chocolate covered cherry on the finish; overall this is still in a dumb phase, giving some but not open, I would wait longer if you have some.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Opaque core with ruby garnet rim; tobacco, purple fruit, green bean, younger; leather, dark and purple fruit, very dark cherry, medicinal, cordial or liqueur quality, suggestion of sweet dried fruit, also some hard red fruit; nice complexity; good.
See through ruby with pink rim; sour cherry, spice, some white rock; decent fullness on the palate, a certain hardness to it, some tannin, a bit 1-D; needs time, good.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Denser core with color change, see through dull ruby; deeper, meatier cherry nose, ripeness, high toned, plum skin; meaty cherry on the palate, slight medicinal, lower acid, some grip.
Dull see through dull ruby; purple Sweet Tarts candy, medicinal, granite, green, austere, hints at black pepper; thinner palate, lean, serious mid, Burgundian, some Brett; other in N. Rhone; called Morgon.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Beautiful crimson color, looks like Ciacci; Italian, pretty rose, cherry, old school, incense; great mouthfeel, dried red fruit, good structure, medicinal, nice roundness, orange oil; still improving; delicious; called it on color alone!, very distinctive Brunello.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark core with bright violet rim; sulfur is strong on the nose, dark berry, kind of grapey; palate a bit more expressive, dark sweet berry, dense, boatloads of tannin but fairly polished, garrigue, almost grapey, intense wine; needs time to resolve and come together, verdict is still out on this, could be brilliant or it could stay a mess.
