• 2006 Domaine Ponsot Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Cuvée des Alouettes 92 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru

  At first a little light and plummy. Plenty of red fruits on the nose, plums, and a little light weight, which I find to be somewhat a characteristic of 2006 Burgundy. Impressive acidity on the finish, very nice structure, which makes this enjoyable to drink. Not overly tannic, but when I had this with peppered steak, the acidity held up the wine very well.
  
  As this is such an acidic wine, I think it really matters to drink it from a glass that accentuates the aromatic profile of the wine.

• 2006 Serafin Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny 92 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

  A little rustic at first, with damp earth, mushrooms, barnyard aromas, and black fruits and a little tea on the nose. On the palate, weighty tannins, and nice acidity.
  
  After a 30-minute decant, the nose remained somewhat subdued, but the palate had an impressive mixture of tannin and acidity hitting you all across the palate, perhaps this is what they call the peacock's tail.

• 2009 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

  Almost certainly a little young to drink this. Benifited substantially from a 2-hour decant. Without decant, this was overly tannic and you couldn't detect the elegance.
  
  With decant, this was a very beautiful, complete, balanced wine, with a nose of blue fruits on the nose, evolving into spiciness. I haven't drunk much Vosne, but this is much as I would expect it to be from other examples. Very nice indeed. Powerful wine with chewy tannins.
