  • 2011 Silvio Giamello Barbaresco Vicenziana 84 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

    Definite Nebbiolo with a modest color and typical nose. Nice supple balance but a long slightly bitter finish. Probably will age nicely. Good but not great and like most wines of the area overpriced ($38) for the enjoyment they bring versus other wines.

  • 2011 Château de Bellevue (André Chatenoud) Lussac Saint-Émilion 84 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lussac Saint-Émilion

    Not very open at this point. Subdued, but nice in low key way with a mildly classic nose. In the mouth balanced and not overly tannic. Overall a young underdeveloped, underwhelming wine, that at $20+ is okay but not a value.

  • 2012 Domaine Catherine Le Goeuil Cairanne 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Cairanne

    Very attractive, complex wine that speaks of garrigue. Spicy and balanced in acid and tannin, this is a very, very nice wine that is classic of the area. BTW, I looked at the other tasting note and wondered if we were tasting the same wine.

  • 2008 Domaine Les Verrières Coteaux du Languedoc Les Sept Fontaines 89 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc

    Very attractive and quite at its best. Juicy, mildly tart spicy Syrah/Grenache flavors and nose with resolved tannins and a wonderful finish. Perfect if you want tonight.

  • 2013 Château de Lascaux Pic Saint-Loup Carra 87 Points

    France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Pic Saint-Loup

    Young and somewhat restrained this wine has a sweet red fruit Syrah nose. Ample but not offensive tannin and good acid balance. I didn't buy but probably should have.

  • 2012 Kuentz-Bas Riesling 87 Points

    Lovely crisp fresh and quite varietal. Overall delicious minus because a bit of edgy tannin that is a minor distraction. Probably not noticeable with food. 12.5%

    Very fresh and well balanced. Oily, citrus, and grassy flavors . Quite young but nice.

  • 2013 Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Côte de Brouilly 89 Points

    Creamy berries nose and bright red color with modest depth.Nicely developed and ready, with good acid and just a touch of tannin and a long fruit finish. Lovely and typical. 13%

  • 2004 Château de Bellevue (André Chatenoud) Lussac Saint-Émilion 75 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Lussac Saint-Émilion

    Color is moderate and the nose was inviting but the bitter, bitter, bitter seed tannins let me know why they held on to this wine in the cellar so long. Good base wine for sweet vermouth but unless you are totally bitter tolerant, avoid this.

  • 2013 Château des Deux Rocs Cabrières Premices 87 Points

    Light and bright with a young Grenache/Syrah nose this is a lovely fresh wine. Not all that complex and with modest tannin this is ready now or may be more in a year. Good value.

    First bottle corked. Second was quite nice, grassy , citrus with good weight and a balance of acidity. Long finish, bit pricy.

    Nice fresh nose but quite dry and tart in the mouth. Good weight in the mouth but too much acid for me, wish I could taste it again in a few years.
