Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2012 Agnès Paquet Auxey-Duresses Rouge 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Auxey-Duresses

At Donna T's Beef Burgundy dinner party in Princeton: A tasty wine, with notes of red cherry fruit -- but very tart -- with some lilac and mineral. Tastes young. Needs some time.
Jen really liked the wine. Went with the beef burgundy and with the shepherd's pie. I would wait a couple of years to drink this.

  • 2006 Nicolas Potel Morey-Saint-Denis Vieilles Vignes 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis

At Donna T's Beef Burgundy dinner party in Princeton: I brought this as a traditional pairing with beef burgundy.
The wine was more evolved than our 2012 tasting, with red fruits, bramble, herbs and some funk on the finish.
It paired well with the beef burgundy (and the Shepard's pie with tofu), although stylistically I preferred the Reignac (Bordeaux).

I also brought the Volnay but we ended up not having any of it.

Great QPR for $14.99 close-out price. Less ok at $35 - $55 I see now in the market.

Can drink for a few more years.

  • 2005 Reignac 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur

At Donna T's Beef Burgundy dinner party in Princeton. I really loved this wine. Out of the bottle it was a little closed and tannic, but with notes of bitter chocolate shining through.
Put it in the decanter for 30 minutes and it really blossomed. Lovely notes of red fruit (blackberry and current), some earth and oozing chocolate flavors on the finish.
A great pairing with the beef burgundy; ok with the shepherd's pie as well. The WOTN for me.

Drinking well now with a short decant, but wine has more time as well.

These are great QPR at our $22 purchase price.

(Bottle from the basement cellar and not the VinoTemp)

Closing

There was also Nicolas Potel's Volnay 1st Cru Caillerets 2006 and Jean-Pierre Boisson Châteauneuf-du-Pape Domaine du Père Caboche la Mirande 2005, but we didn't make it through those bottles.

I brought only wines where I had 2+ bottles, but the take-away is single bottles are ok for the dinner as well.
(There is a rumor the dinners will continue)
