  • 2005 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana IGT 91 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

Very dark chocolate core with thin dull garnet rim; ripe, tobacco, dark fruit, menthol, prune; Bordeaux varieties evident on palate, rich, modern, savory; New World with age or modern Italian, called '04 Guidalberto; very good.

  • 2010 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Dark core with maroon rim; Band-Aid, bright purple fruit, sulfur, perfumed, almost garrigue; prickly with young tannin and sulfur, leather, deep dense purple fruit; good; called '10 St. Cosme CdP; really hard to decipher with the sulfur and Brett, very pent up at this stage, score now 90-92 range.

  • 2003 Tommaso Bussola Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 91 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

Dark dense core, some chocolate, crimson rim; sassafras, sweet, tobacco, raisin, apassimento, whiskey barrel, complex, obviously a rich wine but there is a certain lightness to the nose; heavy and super rich on the palate, low acid, towards one end of the spectrum, finishes with comforting brandy warmth and sweetness; very good, becoming more appreciative of this style.

  • 2006 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 92 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Darker crimson core with larger lighter rim; Red Hots, candied orange, mint, ripe, a touch of heat, spice, nutmeg, complex and interesting nose; grainy tannin, soft, elegant and Burgundian; seems like Brunello but I thought it was '07 Giacosa, very high quality, still young.

  • 2010 Tenute Cisa Asinari dei Marchesi di Grésy Barbaresco Martinenga 91 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Very light, orange crimson; young Italian nose, soft cherry, rose, strawberry, feminine, sexy, a bit 1-D; soft and silky palate, perfumed, sexy, great mid palate; I put this through the Vinturi and the wine transformed, this second wine was layered deep more floral and darker red fruit and so much more serious, this is great wine and would encourage others to try a glass through the Vinturi; 91+.

  • 2011 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Santenay Vieilles Vignes Ceps Centenaires 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay

See through dull ruby, pale rim; very green on the nose, horseradish, sour cherry, strong soil and white/brown rock influence, the fruit comes in after the non-fruit; more fruit on the palate, sour cherry, strawberry, sappy, polished finish, sexy, some tannin; very good, 90+; mine, everyone else in Cotes de Nuits.

  • 2010 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

See through dull rose; sexy, young, some sulfur, strawberry, sexy new French oak, sweet fruit, noble, WOTN just from the nose; tart sour fruit on palate, focused, sweet and delicious red fruit, precise; delicious, 93+.

  • 2007 Chateau Musar 92 Points

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Darker crimson core with lighter rim; nutty, rich red fruit, mahogany, such depth, slight VA; rich palate, some heat, tart red fruit, creamy texture, powerful though not tannic; I think this should prove to be a very good vintage, young but already prodigious.
