En Nuñez de Balboa 103.
Rodolfo Bastida, director general y director técnico de Ramón Bilbao, realizará una cata de vinos de añadas selectas para nuestros socios:1964, 1975, 1982, 1999 y 2008. What a kind yet talkative man!

Una Ensaladilla rusa y unas tortillitas de camarones en Surtopía acompañadas de unas copas de Faraón y de pata de Gallina sirvieron de aperitivo a una cena en barra en Garcia de la Navarra (Anchoa sobre tomate, revuelto de huevo con pimientos, chipirones encebollados y tartar de solomillo) regada con Rebisaca 2013, Bairrada 1980 de Luis Pato y Viña Zaco cosecha 1980.

Flight 1 - Ramón Bilbao (5 Notes)

    Recently recorked.
    Aromas of cherries, pastry shop, anise, milky chocolate and a veggie final note.
    Really dense in the mouth, very oxidised but at the same time very acid. Surprising short finish.
    Extremely elegant anyway.

    Procedente de las fincas Turca y Zaballa, hoy replantadas.
    50% Tempranillo, 20% garnacha, 15% Viura y resto otras variedades.
    Crianza de 50 meses y recientemente con cambio de corcho.
    Aromas a cerezas, pastelería, anisado y con chocolate con leche, nota vegetal.
    Densidad en boca, con notas claramente oxidativas y sorprendentemente ácidas.
    Elegancia al extremo.

  • 1975 Bodegas Ramon Bilbao Rioja Viña Turzaballa Gran Reserva

    Same composition and origin than her 64 sister.
    Also quite similar on the nose, perhaps more closed.
    Really bitter, sour in the mouth. Totally astringent.

    Misma composición y procedencia que su hermana del 64.
    Similar también en nariz al 64 quizás más cerrado.
    Amargo en boca. Totalmente astringente.

  • 1982 Bodegas Ramon Bilbao Rioja Gran Reserva

    Same origin. Recorked.
    Vine peach , cinnamon and cloves on the nose.
    Harmonious and elegant.
    Very good silky and sweet mouth. Long and persistent.
    Class in the glass. My sort of wine.

    Mismo origen. Reciente cambio de corcho.
    Melocotón de viña, canela y clavo en nariz.
    Armónico y elegante.
    Muy bueno en boca sedoso y goloso. Largo y persistente.
    Clase de verdad en la copa. El tipo de vino que me va.

    Long live ahead.
    Aromas of leather and ironed clothes.
    On the palate harsh, astringent and a oaky finish.

    Con mucho tiempo por delante
    Cuero y ropa recién planchada en armario en nariz.
    Áspero astringente y de un final a roble en boca.

Flight 2 - Surtopia (2 Notes)

  • NV Bodegas Hidalgo Faraón 30 Year Old VORS Oloroso

    Probably the same bottle I tasted on January. Served by the glass.
    Well-temperatured this time but with these reduced stocks it gonna be a rare but I won't to indulge myself with an Oloroso like this in this place at least.
    More muted on the nose if compared with last visit to Surtopía.
    Little faded, too much easy drink for what it is.

    Probablemente se trataba de la misma botella que probé el pasado enero. Servida por copas está vez a su temperatura pero estas escasas provisiones van a ser pocas como para ser indulgente conmigo mismo con un oloroso como este.
    Más muda en nariz que la última vez.
    Un poco desfallecida, demasiado fácil de beber para lo que es.

  • NV Emilio Lustau (Almacenista) Oloroso Juan Garcia Jarana Pata de Gallina 1/38

    Served by the glass.
    Once again little untypical Oloroso moreover if you consider it's coming from 'Almacenista' colection. Sightly short, not very intense but worked really well with tapas. Better than Faraon even.

    De nuevo un oloroso un poco atípico más si consideras que pertenece a la colección de "almacenista". Un poco corta, no muy intensa pero funcionó realmente bien con tapas. Incluso mejor que el Faraón.

  • 2013 Do Ferreiro Rías Baixas Rebisaca

    Nice surprise.
    Served almost iced by the glass needing time to be warmer.
    Complex as ever, both nose and palate. Notes of white fruit, hay, flowers and minerals. So good but needs an extra time cellaring. What I really need is an entire case in my cave.

    Una bonita sorpresa.
    Servida casi helada necesitando tiempo para calentarse.
    Como siempre compleja, tanto en nariz como en boca. Notas a fruta blanca, heno, flores y minerales. Muy buena pero necesita tiempo. Lo que a mi me hace falta es una caja entera en mi bodega.

  • 1980 Luis Pato Bairrada

    Once again a typical austere, timid caracther from a Bairrada wine.
    Lovely dusty cherries aromas followed by resolved tannins and a sour finish. Good length.

    Una vez más un vino de Bairrada típicamente austero, de carácter tímido.
    Ricos aromas a cerezas polvorientas seguidos de unos taninos resueltos y de un final agrio. De buena longitud.

  • 1980 Bodegas Bilbainas Tempranillo Rioja Viña Zaco

    A pretty ruby colour. Totally clean. No sediments at all.
    Plenty aromatic full of aromas of red fruits (yet), leather and spices.
    On the palate played delicious with echoes of the nose notes. Vivid acid ready for many years ahead.
    In spite the underrated vintage and the lower stage it belonged, it was my choice of Rioja including all Ramon Bilbao bottles.

    De un bello color rubí. Totalmente transparente.
    Plenamente aromática con (aún) frutos rojos, cuero y especias.
    Deliciosa en boca con ecos de las notas en nariz. Con acidez para continuar viva muchos años.
    A pesar de la añada y de ser solamente un vino "cosechero" para mi fue el Rioja de la noche, incluyendo los de la cata de Ramón Bilbao.

  • 1995 Bodegas del Marqués de Vargas Rioja Reserva

    Despite the sommelier recommended us this wine cause supposed it was the last vintage made with the best grapes if the property, there's a 1995 Privada bottle. Sorry Luis.
    Served by the glass. Smelling like a burnt tyre. Horrible.
    In the mouth sour, bitter and asphaltic. For those who love this kind of things.

    A pesar de que el sumiller nos recomendó este vino por supuestamente haber sido el último en usar las mejores uvas de la propiedad, existe un 1995 de Privada. Lo siento Luis.
    Servida por copas. Oliendo como a neumático quemado. Horrible.
    En boca se mostró agria, amarga y asfáltica. Para aquellos a los que les gustan este tipo de cosas.
