Piedmont -- Giovanni Rosso Winery Visit

A great look at the winery in the process of expansion. Davide Rosso took over the vine making process in 2001, modernizing the style and expanding sales. The wines over the years have become more accessible and the improving sales have build up enough capital to begin the ongoing construction of the brand new winery, cellar, and yes, a helipad. Evan Byrne, the sales director, graciously took us around on the tour of the vineyards and the constructed building.

• 2012 Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo

  Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

  Clean, smooth cherry flavor, cool and fruity, some candy-like or cola flavors, with lingering tannins in the finish.

• 2010 Giovanni Rosso Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba

  Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

  Smooth, fruit forward and balanced wine. Violets, extracted, not too tannic, seems almost open for drinking now. Long way from the gripping ’00, ’01 Serralunga wines that are just coming into a beautiful drinking now.
