Drank from magnum (open 1 day) at the winery (thank you!). Evolved, honeyed (yet dry), musk, yellow plum/dried apple, roses and spice in the background. Really stellar, and would be great to serve with stinky cheese at the end of a meal when you don't want something sweet.

2012 Bravium Pinot Noir Signal Ridge Vineyard

Similar fruit to the Signal Ridge Watchtower Pinot Noir, but with a bit more oak--to its detriment. A good wine, no doubt, and needs a lot of time in the bottle. Plum/Blackberry/Black cherry fruit.

Really nice wine and fruit, cool blue/black fruits, red apple, spice. Balanced, but still too young. Mendocino ridge pinot noir is some delicious stuff.

2013 Signal Ridge Gewürztraminer Ferrington Vineyard

Second Ferrington vineyard gewürztraminer of my trip to Sonoma/Mendocino. Very aromatic (roses!), yet a touch of RS balances things out. Lots of flavor, and I still prefer Navarro's version, but very nice and would be a great accompaniment to aromatic foods.

Yes yes yes yes yes. Very carignan, very funky-fresh. Dark forest berries, spice, funk, and great acidity. Such a value.

2012 Porter Creek Chardonnay

My kind of California chardonnay. Ripe, yes, but not (too much) oak influence. Yellow apple/meyer lemon/sweet corn/nutmeg. Really great with chicken soup. Seriously.

2012 Porter Creek Pinot Noir Fiona Hill Vineyard

Dinner at Applewood in Guerneville. First, this wine is young---please decant or wait (and then decant). Really dense black/blue fruit--fresh, blanced, a touch of violet sort of florals and some earthiness. Seamless yet dense. More Pommard/Gevrey than Volnay or Sonoma.

2012 Porter Creek Syrah Timbervine Ranch

Blackberry, olives, plum skin, bacon, mosquito spray. Incredibly complex, and bridges the line between savory and California fruit. Along with Joseph Swan, my favorite Sonoma syrah. Some viognier co-fermented with the syrah.

2012 Joseph Swan Vineyards Pinot Gris "Orange Wine" Saralee's Vineyard

Homemade strawberry jam. Tart, good fruit, some funk, earthy, more like a light pinot noir than pinot gris or other orange wines I've had. My companions called it funky yet really delicious. I'd buy more.

2012 Porter Creek Old Vine Zinfandel

Delicious. 5% carignan or so, which, I think, brightens things up and may add a bit of acidity. Spicy earthy, yet with brightness. Typical brambly berries, richness, and warmth. I'd love to be drinking a bottle right now in this cold Chicago weather.
