Popped and poured, then consumed over 2+ hours. Started slightly musty in a way that made the wine seem mature while also powerful. But within 15 minutes this was glorious with intense stone fruit aromas and flavors and great sweet spice. The sweetness on fruit and spice softened with more air over 30-45 minutes, with more freshness, energy and acidity emerging. Revisited again after open 2 hours, this was slightly more compact than at its apogee, but still gorgeous, lush and powerful. 95 points at its best, 94 points several hours later.

Sensational start with black fruit,braised meat, cooked mushroom and layers of flavors. This stayed amazingly persistent over 2+ hours in glass. Wonderful now, and I expect well stored bottles will last another couple of decades. This was a pristine, perfectly store bottle. We ended up drinking this alongside the 1989, which was more mature, but after several hours the two wines converged in terms of style and substance, even if this '91 remained more weighty and nuanced.

Popped and poured as a replacement bottle, this started with a restrained and musty character, then quickly expanded again and again until it was a worthy flight-mate for its 1991 counterpart in the next glass. This was more mature and therefore perhaps at its peak today, this showed a very balanced combination of mature black berries and plum, game, sauvage and braised meat spice. Very good now, certainly not as cellarworthy as the 1991, but after several hours the two converged in terms of style, even if the '91 remained more weighty and powerful.
