After the afternoon's session, who would've thought that we could equal, if not top it?!? It was truly mind-boggling! This day of company and wines would be etched in my memory for a long time to come...
3 Dauvissats in as many weeks, and 2 of them being Les Clos! Honey on the nose, plus a bit of overripe apples; And on the palate, citrus, more honey, slate minerality, a bit of salinity presented themselves in a full, long and rounded manner. A great drink to start the dinner!

This had a sweet cherried (but not liquer'ish) nose. Silky and long, what struck me most on entry was its density and weight. And at 39-yrs old, I can't imagine how rustic, powerful and unapproachable this might've been in its youth. Great to have been able to get a taste of this at this juncture; Thanks Bok!

Wow! Don't think I'll go out on a limb declaring this as (N)oseOTD. But really, a potpourri of dried flowers, autumn leaves & tea scents; So so alluring! Just as fresh, attractive and elegant was the palate, with notes of mushroom and some earth. Very good!

After the Leroy and Grivelet, this certainly felt it still had some rough edges yet to be resolved, perhaps because it was the youngest amongst the 3? Had no prior experience with any Bocquenet, so wouldn't know for sure. Anyway, this had spices on the nose, and some plums plus red-dark fruits on the palate. Spotting a medium-long finish, it still had that rustic feel to it. My 1st Bocquenet. Wonder how will this develop...?

This furthur cemented my belief that the King & Queen of Gevrey reside at Chez Rousseau. Rousseaus just seem to have that "x-factor". So perfumed, so much purity, so bright and lifted with red-fruits, so silky and velvety, so nervy and full of tension, yet so beautiful and elegant, and a wonderful depth and length to top it off. And a word I typically reserve for food - so delicious! Just great! Would certainly like to try another one with more bottle-age down the road...

From the Burgs, we moved on to the Italians. And what a privilege and treat this is - the '86 Soldera! Coffee, chocolate on the nose which followed onto the palate, plus some red-dark berries notes. Still very fresh, balanced and long. What a wine! Christian, thanks!

Spice and leather on the nose, this came across as big, dense and ripe after the Soldera. Dark fruits, along with notes of tar on the palate. This didn't seem as elegant nor complex as the Soldera, but nonetheless, a very good wine that will definitely improve with age!

Wow, apart from the '82 Lalande, the '82 GL is probably the other 2nd-growth that could rival/beat the Firsts in this lauded-vintage. In this case, this pristine bottle of GL was definitely a treat! Complex nose of tobacco, smoke, plums, earth... the palate was equally great, with more earth, leather, black-fruits. Fresh, dense/ripe and long, this is so, so nice!

This was so well-kept, with very good fill level. Another pristine bottle! After the GL which was to me flamboyant, this came across as being (too) serious and broody. Nosed mainly of ink, pencil-lead/graphite, the palate was a tad backwards and somewhat rustic (but loosened up a bit after a while and some swirling in the glass) with some meat notes. This is a wine that will probably hold, but I'm not sure if it still had sufficient fruit to improve/evolve furthur. Again, a very nice drink for what it was!

What a fabulous (first) Vivino Int'l outing/gathering, & perhaps it was only fitting that it ended on a high, with the last pair of '86 Mouton & '82 Margaux! And what a "baby" this was. Oh boy, it sure was evolving at glacier-pace; However the stuffing it had was obviously evident. Nose of spice & cigars. Just incredible on the palate - depth of fruit, powerful and intense, still fairly tannic but yet, extremely classy. Superb! Can only imagine what a legend this will be when it hits its drinking window!

This was another "baby" comparatively, as opposed to the '82 GL. Floral nose of violets, berries, chocolates. In itself, this was still very youthful; Against the Mouton, this definitely came across as being more accessible, lush and velvety. More chocolates on the palate, plus leather, red and blue-berries. Great length and freshness. This will definitely get better with time... What a day, and what a way to conclude the dinner with this final pair of FGs! A toast to all that participated in this! Thanks!

2000 Dom Pérignon Champagne
France, Champagne
After the incredible afternoon, this was a prelude/aperitif to what's to come over dinner. Nothing like the '85 Dom which kickstarted our afternoon adventure, this was still good. We got brioche, nuts on the nose. Fine mousse, bright acidity and a good dose of minerality and citrus on the palate. Maybe I'm wanting too much... but this didn't have the complexity of the '85, or the power/depth of the '90. Nonetheless, a nice drink to start the dinner!
